Seeking Advice on CS Degree Pathways

Macroeconomics 2

Budget: $5K Max .  
Commitments:None
Dedicated time to study:I could do 45 hours a week , I would like to get the degree as soon as possible.
Timeline: Getting the degree as soon as possible 3-6 months will be ideal , no more than 1 year max.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement:None
Certifications: Google IT Support Professional Certificate (Coursera).

Hello everyone,

I am a self-taught developer who wants to get a degree in computer science like bachelor's or a master's degree in CS especially or IT as second option.I want to use this degree in EU or Canada. However, I have a limited budget of 5k$ max and I am looking for the most affordable and flexible option.

I would like to know if there’s any affordable US accredited BSCS degree. Also I have heard about UMPI and their online degree programs. I wonder if there is a way to start an UMPI degree and then transfer to Purdue Global's ExcelTrack Master of IT program. Has anyone done this before? I would appreciate any advice or feedback from you.

Unfortunately, $5k for a widely-accepted CS/IT degree is going to be a little tight. Going to UMPI and then PUG would cost way over $5k.

If you follow the degree plan on the wiki, you'll get closer: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/PU...egree_Plan However, you're probably still looking at closer to $5500 or $6000.

University of the People would be cheaper. I think their CS degree is closer to $3000, if you use credit from other sources. MrPanda is currently attending UoPeople and can assist with possible transfers.

However, I don't think a UoPeople degree is technically valid in Canada and it's not going to be valid in all EU countries. You couldn't really use it in Germany, for instance, but you could probably use it in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and maybe France? I am not 100% sure and you'd need to investigate each country individually.

If you maximize transfer credits, a UoPeople degree would take about a year to complete.

You could get BSc from UoPeople even for less than $3000, maybe around $2000, even if not on scholarship (about half of their students have scholarship). Recognition will improve if/after they will get regional accreditation, but that's a bit risky bet.
Some top Indian universities (BITS Pilani, IIT Madras) would fit the budget, but not the criteria (not US degree, not flexible).

With bachelor from UMPI, it seems to me there shouldn't be any problems to progress to masters on Purdue - definitely best to ask them directly though, still on their website they don't mention requirement for a degree in the field of study, just that one has to have a bachelors degree.

@AdamLunar, you've got two threads, review what's there, also review other posts/threads, and lastly, review the WIKI for some details. There are so many ways to get there, it all depends on your budget, commitments, overall scenario, etc. It's great you've done the addendum/template, you're wanting too much and you can't afford it, there's where most of the time I get people to work on the trifecta of certs, degree, experience... UMPI and then University of the People should be a good choice. It gives you a degree that ought to be valid in all countries (UMPI) and an advanced degree that may or may not be looked on as "valid" in various countries. Even if you can't use the Master for immigration, you may be able to use it for employment and use the Bachelor for immigration.
