I can take either the Social Sciences and History CLEP or the Intro to World Religions DSST test to take care of the Values & Beliefs portion of my degree. I was just wanting a little feedback from anyone who might have taken both of them on their opinion? Which was easier to study for? Which was the easier test? I am a full member here, so I can access the flash cards. I am currently studying the Western Civ 1 cards for my test next week. Thank you for all your help!

I've taken both and Intro to World Religions was the easiest. The study guide on the forum is on-point, also use the free-clep-prep.com test to study. Good luck.

I took both. I would say definitely World Religions. If you go over the book mentioned in Specific Feedback, Religions of the World I think?, everything you need to know is in there practically word for word. Social Sciences and History is too broad a subject IMO, unless you need 6 credits.

I've taken both. Go with Intro to World Religions!
Before taking SS&H, I took both U.S. His CLEPs, the American Gov. CLEP, and both Western Civs. I planned it this way so my actual studying for it wasn't hard because I had already covered 90%+ through the other tests. If I had to pick it up cold, or even with half the tests, it would of been a LOT harder.
Intro to World Religions took less then a week of study. A user, (mfu something) posted a great study guide. Use that, review with the flashcards and as bldclot said TAKE FCP's PT (it was very accurate IMO)!
Best of luck on Western Civ this week and on which ever test you choose to tackle next!

I would go with the Intro. to World Religions test as well. I have not taken SS&H, but I did put in a lot of study for it. I don't think you would have too much of a problem with it if you are up to snuff on your Humanities, but like everyone else said SS&H is so much more broad. It also depends on how much knowledge of each subject you are bringing in to the test and whether or not you need 6 credits.
I probably put in about a week of study and scored a 466 on Intro. Religions. For coverage, I would suggest the textbook
History of the World's Religions 12th edition.
Amazon.com: History of the World's Religions (12th Edition) (9780136149842): David S. Noss, Blake R. Grangaard: Books
You can snag a copy for $4 including shipping, and it covers a bit more than the Idiot's Guide or Huston Smith's
The World's Religions. And there is definitely no need to go with a newer edition. This one should have everything you need. I also hear that IC is pretty good for this test.
Hope that helps and good luck!

I guess I'll chime in and agree with everyone else here: definitely World Religions. Both are quite doable but World Religions I thought was easier.

Your background in History, Government, and Sociology really paid off!
I just passed this one, too, and having already taken US History and American Government CLEPs were a great starting point for me.

I just took the Social Science and History test today. I didn't study because I have a descent knowledge of history. Here's what I remember from the test.
Know the following:
-Sociology-
Socialization
Ethnocentrism
Assimilation
Cultural Relativism
Control Group
Social Stratification
Social Mobility
Unconscious Mind: Started by Feud and expanded upon by Carl Jung and
-Economics-
How does stagflation work
Mean, median and mode
Supply and demand
-History-
Mcculloch v. Maryland
Thomas Paine's book, Common Sense, inspired what movement?
What year could women vote?
Why was Europe seeking a water route to China?
What were the Federalist Papers?
Statistics on slavery (where in the US were they shipped).
Alexander Hamilton's role in the US Banking System
Karl Marx's thoughts on Capitalism
Cuba's Revolution (Originally chosen by popular vote? backed by US?)
Hope this helps!

Thank you for all the help with the info. I need 6 credits for the Values and beliefs portion, so the Social Sciences and History will be the test I take. I started studying using a book from the library, so we'll see how this helps. I'm pretty good with History, so it's mostly the social sciences that I will be concentrating on.
