Hey hey!
I am trying to find a Spanish class with the best bang for the buck. Straighterline is $281. Given how much I like SL I am tempted, but before I took the plunge I wanted to check and see if there are any alternatives for less money?
Gracias!

How fast can you go? Do you know Spanish already? Of course there are options, you should take them at Study.com - 9 credits for the price of 3.
Basically, if it was me, $200 for 2 courses, and $70 for the final Spanish course if you finish in a month otherwise, it depends....
I don't recall any other provider offering Spanish. I think it's cheaper/easier/faster with Study.com as you get more lessons/videos.

I have ZERO Spanish experience other than the odd tidbits I've picked up over the years as a result of living in Texas and California. That said, I grew up with French in Canada and I am fairly comfortable with English and French, so I imagine Spanish can't be too far off?
So you mean taking Study.com 101, 102, 105 in a month (hence the 9 credits for price of 3)?
Many thanks.

Study.com offers Spanish 1 & 2 as well as a Spanish for work course. All are ACE approved and should transfer. If you already have a basic grasp of Spanish, you could potentially complete both 1 & 2 in a single month for $200 (the cost of a single month's membership.)

If you have ZERO Spanish but do know some other languages such as French, I think you should decide/figure out how much "time" you need. Are these courses for personal use or for general education elective credits? I remember SL had them for $225 and was mainly using Rosetta Stone, I think the system they use are different now and that's the reason for a price increase. I tried Rosetta Stone for some Asian languages and didn't have much luck with that program, others loved Rosetta but I couldn't learn using that medium.
What I used most was getting a basic language book with Audio CD and spent about 2-3 months learning that language. I would recommend if you're doing this for personal reasons, to do take a similar approach (like using Duolingo, or other freemium sites, or the old fashion way with Book & CD), then when you "feel confident", take all 3 courses in that one month as it should have a bit of overlap.
So, to recap, if it's for "credit purposes" and you know a bit of Spanish already, then try to complete the three as it should technically have a bit of overlap. If you're doing this for personal reasons and really want to learn the language, you can try "freemium sites like Duolingo" along with the Audio/CD's & Books, just take it slowly for a couple to three months, and then take the courses at Study.com for those 9 credits. It'll be better that way to retain info.

If you don't mind the self-study route, CLEP through Modern States which is free. (The Modern States course will help, but I would do a lot more than just that.)
Most schools give 6 cr or 12 cr depending on how well you do.

You should look into the French CLEP exam which is $100/9cr, and the OPIc and WPT exams - about $105 per exam, and you get 6 UL and 6 LL credits for each exam if you score high enough.
For Spanish:
SL uses Rosetta Stone, and if you end up not liking it, you will have a hard time getting through it (I and my kids loathed it). You could think about using Modern States for free, and adding SpanishHour.com to prepare for the CLEP. It's cheap.
