32-credit doctorate in systems engineer? It's possible!
#1
Colorado State University has an online PhD and D.Eng in systems engineering. The PhD is, obviously, more research-oriented. It does not require professional experience, but an applicant must find a faculty advisor before being accepted to the program. The D.Eng does not require one to find a faculty advisor with compatible research interests, but it does require a practicum and 5-8 years of professional experience. Admission to both programs is competitive.

Up to thirty credits from a technical master's degree can be applied to either program taking the requirements down from 72 credits to 42 credits. Additionally, if you have graduate-level courses that have not been applied to a degree, those can be transferred in on top of the 30 credits from your master's degree. The PhD has a limit of 10 post-master transfer credits, meaning that a minimum of 32 credits have to be completed with CSU. The D.Eng has a limit if six post-master transfer credits. The credits must be less than 10 years old.

Tuition is $1,085 per credit.

The Mississippi state university online PhD ‘s are around 30 credits or so beyond the masters or 54 -60 beyond the bachelors. I believe the cost is around $750 per credit so an ms is about $22k and the doctorate is around $22k

The New School has a 60 credit PhD in public and urban policy which you can transfer 30 credits from your masters leaving you with 30 more. Also when you finish your remaining 30 credits and pass the comp exams you will be awarded a masters in philosophy (Mphil). Once you pass the comp exams you can move on to the dissertation.

Looked into these programs.

Just an FYI (as of 2024)
The PhD and EdD at Mississippi now require 30 hours past the EdS. It specifically says that anyone with just a master's will be required to complete 30 hours of electives IN ADDITION to the EDD or PhD program curriculum.

Also, the programs do not appear to be asynchronous.

Since EdS and EdD was mentioned, there was a thread on the sister board today about offerings, I think they're interesting alternatives to ACE.edu, but I think ACE.edu might have the upper hand in cost if you go the EdS and then EdD route. I would investigate options and see if these two work for you, ACE.edu and the institution mentioned here! Link: https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?thr...ed-d.62851
