I took this test and passed with a 64, which is enough for 12 credits at TESC. On the REA practice tests I was scoring 65 and 66, which is pretty close to what I actually scored. I would recommend getting a copy of the REA Practice guide, and if you can score a couple of points above 50 with that, you should have no problem passing the real thing!

Hi!
I would say go for the CLEP Spanish if you want 6 credits (maybe 12)! I took 3 years of highschool Spanish and visited Mexico several times. I took this test two years after graduating highschool, so I was rusty. I could understand a lot of Spanish, but speaking was more difficult for me. I have to echo what another poster said about the audio portion. It was absoultely horrible. I honestly could only understand a few of the questions right about what they were saying/asking. The written portion of the exam was fairly easy and is what allowed me to pass with a 53. I used the REA book and an old textbook from my highschool class. Hope this helps and good luck to you! Blessings, -Kelsey

I took that test 6 moths ago and expected it to be easier.. It is not that easy, I would say if you are not very fluent, be careful. A lot of responses sound alike.

This was one of my first CLEPs I took, and I scored way lower than expected! Looking back I can see why though, I barely paid attention during my 2 years of high school Spanish, and even then that was 2 years before I took this test. It's amazing I even passed at all, although I would say if you actually spend some time studying and don't rely on dim memories of Spanish, you should be able to score much higher than I did.
I completely agree about the audio recordings being terrible, the ones on the Peterson's practice test are deceptively easy. Actually I think the Peterson's test is much easier than the real test, so don't be tricked by that!
Hope this helps some,
Kate

I think I've posted this somewhere before, but I did think that Spanish CLEP was difficult in spite of my score. What I found challenging is the listening piece... you'd hear a series of items and be asked a question relating to one specific item on the list. For example, you'd hear the speaker talking about ten different countries that she'd visited and then you'd be asked to pick out which ones she went to. I would have found this difficult in English without taking notes. I don't think that the audio was as bad as people say, but everyone had very uncommon accents. What I mean by this is that typically, here in the States, we'll speak and use our Spanish with people from Mexico or Puerto Rico. Most of the recordings I heard were people with thick South American accents. Not what you usually see on Telemundo..
Other than GOOD note taking, I don't think that this is something that you can cram for. Can you speak and read Spanish? I know it can be expensive and frustrating to take a CLEP that you don't pass, but look at it this way:
If you pass even with a 50, you just got some credits. If you fail, but are still interested in Spanish, you now know for sure that you need to make the $$$ investment to learn it a little better.

If you're a native spanish speaker, I would think it'll be easy. Almost as easy as resurrecting an almost 7 year old thread.

Ask your question in Spanish. If the person doesn't understand your question, he/she probably didn't make an 80.

Who said they got an 80? 80 is the top score. But, I am sure some native speakers get an 80, because it's just 1-2 years of college Spanish.
