Study.com Vietnam
#1
I was wondering if anyone has taken the study.com course History 308: Causes and Effects of the Vietnam War.

I'm hoping to pass the Vietnam DSST after another few weeks of studying, but will use this as a fallback if I don't pass. I've watched the Battlefield Vietnam documentary on YouTube and have read the posts in the exam feedback area for study aids, but I'm getting more nervous the closer I get to taking it since passing it will complete my requirements for graduation. Was the course difficult or lengthy? Would I be able to complete this in a weekend?

I need to knock out an Upper Level course and a History course to complete my requirements, and UMUC should transfer this as a 300-level class, which is why I'm asking about this specific one as it fulfills both requirements.

This was one where instant cert was all I needed. Maybe the Vietnam War wiki and few youtube videos and you should be all set.

I took it two months ago, there were a few quizzes and videos that I didn't like or had trouble with but for the most part you could definitely power through them in a week. There's two long essays that I know I couldn't manage in that time. I easily passed it in two weeks with no real prior knowledge, so I guess it just depends on how fast you write essays.

I probably spent about 30-40 hours taking this course. I tried watching the Ken Burn's Vietnam War series afterwards, but found the study materials provided with Study.com are better for learning the material, as the documentary film skips around too much.

I was going to take it but TESU recently downgraded it to LL so there's really no point anymore. Do the other Study.com one, its worth the same and it doesn't require essays

Not at all true - TESU downgraded the other course, but this one is still UL (it's on Study.com's updated course transfer list).

I took Vietnam  DSST a few months and used only the IC flash cards and the specific forum and the study guides in there. I was a little nervous myself, but found the the test to be very easy. I don't think you would need the study.com course at all, because you will pass the test!!

I thought I saw somewhere that they downgraded both of them to LL. I need an UL history course right now so I was pretty sure, but I'll go back and look again

Nope, just downgraded the one.

HIS108 History of the Vietnam War now comes in as HIS-246 Intro to Vietnam War
HIS308 Causes and Effects of the Vietnam War stays HIS-351 A History of Vietnam War

Good news also with History, the 2 Civil War courses used to duplicate, but they don't any longer (one got upgraded):

HIS106: The Civil War and Reconstruction still comes in as HIS-252 Civil War & Reconstruction
HIS306: The American Civil War Era now comes in as HIS-450 The American Civil War Era

So now, you have 4 history courses, none of which duplicate, 2 LL and 2 UL.  This is actually BETTER than it was before.

Did you have the IC flashcards memorized? I've watched the Battlefield documentary and did some of the IC flash cards so far. I've been able to get an 80 on the free-clep-prep test after watching the documentary, but not sure if I'm ready to take the real thing or not.
