Study.com and Thomas Edison State College Official Transfer Guide
#1
Hello everyone, I recently found this Study.com and TESU transfer guide. I know some people on here were trying to figure out how classes transfered to TESU from credit earned on this website. I hope this answers any questions people had who were inquiring about going this route to finish their college credit. Of course, I'd also like to hear any input from others who experienced taking classes on Study.com and if anything has changed on this list. If this is up to date, I hope this really helps someone open some doors in case they have "test fright" and want to avoid UExcels and such.

AWESOME! Thanks for sharing this. It's good to have all this info (and I have a spreadsheet of all of these, missing those course transfer equivalencies).

I hope this list is up to date (may be someone who knows can chime in? Or perhaps I'll be a guinea pig after I finish my application with TESU). It would be awesome if it is, especially for the UL classes Smile

I'm curious too. My son is finishing Intro Marketing, I can't believe TESC would award UL credit for the intro business series. The only other one I'd question is the HG&D / Lifespan psychs. My money is on duplication of credit there. CLEP (HG&D) and DSST (lifespan) duplicate.

TESC has confirmed for me that Study.com Human Resource Management will qualify as an UL course. (Just completed it today!) It's actually a very nice course, if a bit long and very detailed, but I enjoyed it and knocked it out over 4-days of moderately intensive study.

I think Study.com originally started as a way to study for the CLEP, DSST and UExcel exams, and then branched into actually giving credit for the courses they were teaching. Every single course they have is a duplicate of either a CLEP, DSST or UExcel course.

There are a few changes in terms of number of credits given and whether or not it's given UL:

Intro to Humanities - CLEP is HUM-101/102 (6cr), study.com is HUM-101 (3cr)
Natural Sciences - CLEP is NAS-101/102 (6cr), study.com is Introductory Physics PHY-104 (3cr)
Intro to Biology - CLEP is BIO-111/112 (6cr), study.com is BIO-101 (3cr)
Intro to Chemistry - CLEP is CHE-111/112 (6cr), study.com is CHE-104 (3cr)
College Math - CLEP is MAT-102/103 (6cr), study.com is MAT-102 (3cr)

Calculus - CLEP is MAT-231 (3cr), study.com is MAT-231 (6cr) - there may be an error on the table

Psych of Adulthood & Aging - UExcel is PSY-319 (UL), study.com's is called Developmental Psych II PSY-212
Intro to World Religions DSST is REL-405 (UL), study.com's is REL-277

So I would be very careful not to duplicate credit between CLEP/DSST/UExcel and study.com, and also be careful in deciding which ones to take for UL or 6cr courses.

For whatever reason, no matter where you take Marketing and Management, they come in as UL at TESU. Except of course if it's at a CC. Kooky. I don't think SL is better than CC, but apparently TESU does!

BUT, maybe it's because it just doesn't matter to TESU. Since there is no requirement that those courses be UL, and only 4 electives must be UL in the BSBA, it doesn't matter what course number they give them. They also don't count in other degree plans except in Free Electives, so it doesn't matter to those degree plans either, since all of your UL requirements are in your Area of Study.

When I emailed the TESU registrar, they responded by stating that I would receive all 6 credits from Study.com, but it would be for Calculus I. In other words, it wouldn't count as Calculus I and Calculus II. My original question to the registrar was whether I could take Calculus III at TESU after transferring in the 6 credit Calculus course at Study.com; instead they replied back that I would not receive 3 credits for Calc I and 3 credits for Calc II at TESU --- they never did answer my actual question. I suppose it doesn't matter as their doesn't appear to be firm prerequisites, just an advisory.

Just, a quick question, for what does UL stand for? I'm so confused and I can't seem to figure it out!
Thank!
