Study.com is switching to non-proctored and open-book exams
#51
Everyone is going to have their opinion on learning and the ways to accumulate alternative credits, I am very neutral to taking alternative credits as I started with StraighterLine and took at least 30+ with proctoring through ProctorU. I didn't mind a person on the other end, I even had an interaction with one of them as they required two ID's and at the end of the exam, marked mine with technical difficulties, so in the end, I had to call StraighterLine to unlock the class to grant me the credits. Basically, I think we're all overlooking or looking too hard at some things over others...

Anyways, long story short... I think of these alternative providers as dual enrollment or as high school/college combo of classes, these are mainly lower level in nature. You can transfer in at max 90 credits in most cases, but you're finishing the final courses and requirements at a real institution, mostly public or state institutions unless you decide on the non profit ones. You'll still have hurdles to complete the final 30 credits until you're done with everything in order to get the degree. It may seem more simple for 3/4th of the degree, in the end, you still have to pass the final hurdles.

There have always been college courses that are not difficult to pass, even legitimately without cheating.

This is a hand-waive answer. There has been no BM college course situation (besides scuba diving) where I could finish 3-4 4 credit semester classes in one week without studying and next to no effort…

It’s a joke, let’s just call it what it is. I get they are accepted by a few schools and give people easy access to credits but I’m not going sugar coat it.

People who have used them to get a college degree (particular those who never got a BM degree) are obviously going to be defensive and biased. No one wants to be told their credits were a joke.

The real problem with all of this is ChatGPT.

So, this means that we can't use ChatGPT or look up the answers on the internet right?

Basically, they're going with the Honor Code, where you're not getting extra external help from another person for example. For assignments and written work, I use tools such as Grammarly and WordCounter, as I like to make sure I have more than the requirements. For example, a 3000 word assignment, I'd like to make sure I reach much more than what is required.

It's just me, I like going slightly over the minimum requirements... Grammarly and WordCounter, etc, are tools to assist you, they're not doing the homework for you like what ChatGPT. People use the internet for citation help, making sure they know the APA or MLA requirements, etc. You're getting info to assist you with your written work.
