You have an in-person proctor that allows you to go shirtless?

You really don't do proctoring because you can't sit the test in your shorts?
The thing that's so funny is that online proctoring is for the student's convenience. Would you be happier if it were in person? Anyway, it's your apartment, BUT you're not alone. Try showing up at a testing center shirtless. It wouldn't be tolerated in any other academic setting, and I don't see why the proctor should have to put up with it. It's actually a pretty rude thing to do, but he was 19.

Just a FYI, you cannot use an external webcam on a Mac. At least not with RPNow, which is what Study.com uses. I originally purchased my external webcam for just that purpose so I could use it on my iMac and not have to use my laptop, but I ran into issues while testing it. When I contacted support they said that their software doesn't support external cameras at all on Mac systems. It will appear to work but doesn't record properly on their side, which will invalidate the test. There is a notice on the RPNow site about it as well.
So, if you want to use an external webcam, you need a PC. Which is why I use it on our PC (which also has a 27" monitor) instead of the iMac now.
For ProctorU it may work fine with the external webcam, but I haven't tried that. I'm just using the PC now to be safe.

Nooo! UGH!! Sooo... my husband has a PC with a stand alone webcam, but he runs dual monitors. I have taken a final on his computer before buying my iMac, and the proctors at ProctorU just shuts off one of his monitors (fine, I only need one anyway). I will attempt to contact Study.com to see if I can test with his computer.. obviously using just the one monitor and shutting off the other?! And since I can't use my 30 units from Shmoop now, I'm going to have to take quite a few courses with study.com. I can't help but be frustrated with the hassle that I'm already dealing with and it's only just the FIRST class! Insert F word here.

Just wanted to give an update-- I pulled the trigger and tested using my 27" Mac with built-in webcam for my Personal Finance final. I used the same process that I use with ProctorU for clearing the room, and pulled out my giant mirror to perform the room scan. I actually said out loud to RPnow, "I'm going to grab my big mirror and go thru the same process that I do with ProctorU, since my webcam is built-in and it's impossible for me to turn my monitor around." I did the side scan by moving my monitor, but then grabbed the mirror to show the walls and under the desk, etc.
I was not 'flagged' for cheating and had the luxury of testing on my big ol' monitor.

If it works it works. That's good to hear. I was actually thinking about this as I was browsing a swap meet today and saw brand new web cams for just $10.

Not sure if you are using a Mac or not-- but if you ARE-- Study.com/RPNow states in BRIGHT RED BOLD LETTERS -- Macs cannot have external webcams.

Glad to see you found a solution that works for you. Not sure I could do the same thing on my iMac since I have a second monitor plugged into it as well. Not to mention, I don't have a giant mirror to use, and I'd be worried about dropping it if I did.
So using the second system works out better for me.
