Suggestions for next project (if there is to be one at all)
#1
COMPLETED:
Excelsior College A.S. degree (liberal arts)

Coursework completed:
63 FEMA courses complete 1/2/10
4 NFA courses Complete 1/5/10
A+ (Computer Repair)
N+ (Networking)
MCP XP PRO (Microsoft Certified Professional)
AP English Literature
ALEKS Beginning Algebra
ALEKS Intermediate Algebra
ALEKS College Algebra
ALEKS TRIG.
ALEKS Intro to STATS
Straighterline Macro Econ
Straighterline Micro Econ
Straighterline Accounting I
Straighterline Accounting II
Penn Foster Info Literacy
Penn Foster Art Appreciation
Penn Foster Music Appreciation
Penn Foster Psychology

-------------------

What gives me hope is that a couple of these are considered upper level credit, specifically, my Net+ cert = 2 upper level credits, and my ALEKS stats = 3 upper level credits.

In conjunction with further implementation of FEMA I wonder if perhaps I'm a senior or at least a good bit through my junior year at EC? But for the life of my I cannot find the bachelors degree plan for liberal arts (I'm not married to liberal arts, I'm simply trying to identify the easiest goal, and history indicates liberal arts is it!).

Could somebody help me find that, and possibly offer suggestions about whether or not any of the other big three are viable for my goals? As it turns out Excelsior kind of upset me and I'm not extremely excited about going that route again (but I will if it is the clear choice).

I'm just putting out feelers, I have no idea if this is something that is actually going to happen yet, I'm still so happy to have completed any degree at all--I didn't believe it was possible at one point... Smile

BSBA CIS at TESC
I think this is your best bet as you have computer certs and business classes already under your belt.
It is a well traveled path too.
I would start by taking the business law clep and Penn Foster Financial Management and Visual C# and Systems Analysis. That will get you started on the CIS core. You already know how Penn Foster works so that is a benefit.
Get an eval at TESC for $75 and get started! Smile

Congratulations on finishing your associate degree! I am glad to see that you and your wife are considering your options.

You can download the latest Liberal Arts Catalog and Student Guide to Credit by Exam from this page:

School Catologs - excelsior.edu

For a quick chart for the BSLS, choose that degree from this page:

Degree Programs

Then download the "Degree Chart" from the middle of the next page.

It looks like you have finished a depth in math already.

Also, Straighterline has added and is adding more courses.

I'm doing the BS in IT (general option) with EC, courses aren't too hard and it looks like you have a background in IT already (A+/Network+). It's nice to double tap some of those key requirements (certs), but I know other places besides EC offer that. Definitely recommend, if you plan on working in IT, you get some more certs done while doing your degree.

Pretty sure most of what you have will move over, plus you save the time/effort (maybe money too) of having to apply to another school.

Ok I found it.

If I can do all this you and your wife can help each other to a BA/BS each. There are Plenty of test out there to help and straighterline is coming out with new classes.

TESC is not a bad option for either of you. You can do this you are still young.

Get it done now and don't just Wish you got it done later.

Brother, bang out that BS or BA now!!! There is no downside, you have the support to do it. You have discovered this great place and know how to tap the wealth of knowledge that is Instantcert, you need to buckle down and get it done...wife too!!!

The IT path seems like a no brainer for you...but even if you pick LS your doing yourself a wealth of good. Congrats on the AS it's a great achievement, but you owe it to yourself and your family to walk the rest of the way.

Don't ignore the possibilities right there in Colorado. I don't know of a specific program to direct you to but they seem to be ahead of the pack in unique educational opportunities ( I'm thinking of Red Rocks and FEMA, CSU-Pueblo with there awesome DL courses, and the Colorado consortium on DL). As a resident there might be a viable alternative for you other than the big 3...Im just saying it's worth a good look Smile

I'm kind of disillusioned after my last couple jobs, I have no idea what I want to do anymore, so I'm not sure if I need a four year degree or not (or which one).

I'd do a general BS / BA degree in something like management then, especially if you have the motivation and support right now. Provides you with flexibility and value if you decide to jump ship into another line of work.

:iagree: with everyone's comments. You cannot go wrong with a BSBA CIS. You have an interest in the field and a business administration degree will support most corp/tech positions in the future. Unless you are a trust baby or will inherit in the near future, trust me; you will need a 4yr degree min. There is always a device used to weed out the populace. Even if you plan to open your own business; what if it should go under and you need something to tie you over until the next venture. Please continue on.

Would you be better off with a 4 yr degree or not? I think you would be, so the only question is, which test to knock out first Smile

If you can't decide between gen mgmt and CIS, then just work the overlapping courses until you need to make a decision.
In some cases, a four year degree is the new high school diploma and a masters is the new bachelors.
To me, an associates is a great stepping stone to a 4 year degree and once you have the 4 year, why not just do a masters since its only 30-36 credits.
So get like the rest of us and just keep going till PhD!
