Switching from TESU to UMPI
#1
Exclamation
Hi everyone,
In my initial post, I mentioned that I was planning to study Computer Science at TESU. However, my friend from Germany informed me that TESU may not be accredited in Germany, based on the German Anabin database. Since my goal is to find a job or pursue a master’s degree in Germany, I’ve decided to change my plan from TESU to Umpi (University of Maine at Presque Isle), which has an H+ rating in the Anabin database.
In the meantime, I’ve completed 11 courses on Sophia.
Here’s a summary of my situation:
  • Location: Turkey
  • Age: 23
  • Current Occupation: IT Project Manager
  • Career Goal: Transition to a developer role or pursue a master’s degree in Germany
  • Previous Education: I left an engineering degree halfway through at a university in Turkey
  • Transfer Credits: 33 credits from the following courses:
    • College Algebra
    • Introduction to Ethics
    • Introduction to Information Technology
    • Introduction to Nutrition
    • Calculus 1
    • Environmental Science
    • Intro to Business
    • Project Management
    • Principles of Finance
    • Microeconomics
    • Macroeconomics
  • Budget: Less than $10,000
  • Work Commitment: Full-time
  • Study Time: Approximately 25-30 hours per week
  • Timeline: I want to finish the degree as quickly as possible
  • Tuition Assistance/Reimbursement: No, self-funded
Do you have any suggestions for me? Is there a final plan available for the Umpi Project Management & Information Systems degree?
Thank you!

You will need to get your high school diploma and existing university credits evaluated. As an international student, you will also need to submit an official English language proficiency exam score: https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/admissions-requirements/ https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/faqs/

You can find the degree plans for UMPI here:

BABA Project Management (this degree contains all the MIS minor requirements):

Completed: HAU MBA | BA Economics (US) | Finland Open Studies @ XAMK/Metropolia/Helsinki/Laurea
Certs Completed: Scrum CSPO/CSM | Google PM/Data Analytics/Marketing

Basically, follow the WIKI plan for now, I would continue working on your Sophia.org classes to get the max transfer credit into the UMPI PM&IS, I also highly suggest completing the Coursera Certs (all of them if possible) to give you a balanced mix/match of certs, degree, experience within your portfolio. And, for more info/plus review, here's your previous thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...egree-Plan

Graduate Certificate: ASU Global Management & Entrepreneurship

Completed: TESU ASNSM Biology, BSBA (ACBSP Accredited 2017)
Universidad Isabel I: ENEB MBA, Big Data & BI, Digital Marketing & E-Commerce
Certs: 6Sigma/Lean/Scrum, ITIL | Cisco/CompTIA/MTA | Coursera/Edx/Udacity

Thank you for the information. Do I need to take every course listed in the General Education section, except for the ones that are duplicates?

One course per requirement listed and you need at least 40 credits in general education in total.

Thank you for your response.  There are only 3 certificates for this degree right?

You don't have to take any of the certificates—they are optional. Remember that you can only transfer a maximum of 90 credits to your degree.

The degree plan lists 102 transfer credits, so you must choose which ones to take at UMPI.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

I've created a spreadsheet for my degree plan. Can you check it and suggest any corrections or improvements? I would appreciate any feedback you have

Basically, I would still recommend getting the other Coursera Certs as you're only 23 years of age, that would add some certs and experience into your portfolio. If you were say, 43 and have many years of experience, then the main goal is the degree itself, not the certs or experience. You want to have a well balanced mix/match of the trifecta I usually recommend, certs, degree, experience. Coursera Certs are affordable and gets the job done for entry into that field...

The IBM certificate has expired. So if you did not complete it before September 30th then the credits will not transfer to UMPI.
