I understand that to generate a GPA for a degree earned at TESC you must complete either an online class or a guided study class. Would the 1 credit PLA course meet this criteria? Would this course be considered an elective?
Trying to figure out the cheapest way to gain GPA.
Thanks,

Why do you need a GPA? I can only see it being useful for graduate school acceptance and they will calculate their own GPA based on all of your classes, not just one class at TESC.
BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics, 2013 - TESC - Arnold Fletcher Award
AAS in Applied Computer Studies, 2013 - TESC
116 B&M Credits
32 FEMA Credits
9 ALEKS Credits - Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry
9 Straighterline Credits - Business Communication, Microeconomics, English Composition II
6 TESC Credits - Global Environmental Change
3 DSST Credits - Environment and Humanity

Thanks,
PLAs are not graded, you are only rewarded CR. You must take a TESC course for a GPA.
I would recommend one of the following:
ENG298 1cr OL course Jane Austen Pride & Prejudice
SOS110 3cr OL course Living in the Informaton Age
I did not take the ENG course but it is 1cr. (I believe the only 1cr course the college offers.) I took the SOS course, it was a fun as it was designed to reintroduce students to college writing, basic math and comprehensive skills. Very easy three credits. The midterm and final were written assignments.
Good luck!

The PLA courses are courses that are graded. These are the introductory courses you need to take before completing a portfolio assessment unless you have already taken a PLA course at another school. The credits earned for portfolio assessments are not graded.

Oh, thanks! I've seen the two courses discussed prior but had no idea they were graded; thought it would be considered remedial. This course actually doesn't look bad at all. Although not what I would have chosen to be my only TESC course.

I am signed up for TESC PLA 100 starting June 2nd. The syllabus says that there are two recommended textbooks, but also that they are not required. Can somebody who has taken this course give me feedback, do I need to buy the textbooks?
