D: General Ed Electives
>> MAT-105-TE Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics
>> BIO-208-TE The Science of Nutrition
>> CMP-354-TE Network Technology
A: GMS Required Areas
>> COM-210-TE Public Relations Thought & Practice
B: GMS Elective Area
>>FIN-321-TE Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
PS: CIS-107-TE Computer Concepts And Applications was not approved; here is what the adviser said :
"All of the exams in your message are approved for your degree, with the exception of CIS-107, Computer Concepts and Applications. Since you already have credit for COS-101, students are discouraged from taking CIS-107 because the exam content is very similar. Please choose another option."
Hence I picked "CMP-354-TE Network Technology " and it fit General Ed oh well no worries, it helps the residency requirement and part of degree I am happy.
I have to agree with the others, this seems a bit strange. CIS107 and COS10 do not duplicate. Even in the response the Advisor mentions discouraged, not that it was unapproved or a duplicate. I was also told once I couldn't take a test because it did not fit into my degree and guess what, it was nto true. That person is now an Asst Director, and he despised testing. He would not approve the exam (plan it in.) We actually had a huge disagreement about it. If he could get everyone ot take a PLA or course he would have been a happy camper. He kept repeating it over and over again.
I would be very careful with Network Technology in Gen Ed, a CS student just had thet exam moved out of free electives as an exception of a mistake made by an Advisor.
Was this added by the expressline? I'm sorry to give you more work to do, but I would set up a phone appointment to go over these selections. I just don't want you to wait until graduation audit to have red flags raised and you, like others, have to then scramble for replacement credit.
I would take CIS107 until they've posted it is duplicate credit or not allowed (eg AOJ101 and AOJ102); which I don't expect them to do because the courses are from two different areas. The tests may have consistencies but the actual courses are like night and day. Both begin a computer hardware overview then one moves into software applications (CIS107), while the other introduces Visual Basic (COS101). Many students drop this course like a hot potato after realizing it's not another easy applications course..
When credit is evaluated, approved and added to the transcript that task is completed by the evaluations team (registrar) not Advising. Evaluations, along with the Dean in case of appeals, make the final decisions. Advising will (often:mad make mistakes that unfortunately lands on the student.Would you mind sharing the name of the Advisor? If you do not want to post publicly pleae send me a PM.
Just to prove my point I would reply to that idiot Advisor with these two descriptions, requesting an appeal of their decision noting the provided links to course syllabi to rub salt in the wound.
I think it's time to begin to highlight these "knowledgeable" employees. So I've dont eht groundwork for you. You only need to cut an paste the descriptions below.

I signed up for the Networking Technology TECEP. After doing some "what-if" evaluations, I found that it falls into CIS and Intellectual and Practical Skills, but not computer science or natural science. I only need it as a CIS elective.
