TESC degree plan. HELP! Overwhlemed...... did I bit off more than I can chew?
#1
Hi All

Everyone on this forum has been great and offered a lot of insight and help over the years. I took the plunge and enrolled at TESC before the new requirements. I am a little overwhelmed and wondering if I bit of more than I can chew. I have one year to finish up working full time, with two small children and money tight. I am looking for advice on my degree plan and easiest path. Any advice on changes or deletions if there may be an easier way would be helpful.

I am currently taking Global Environmental Changes at TESC and everything else will be clep, dsst, PF or other options. I have some planned in my eval, but open to changes. I am also thinking of PF Art appreciation and Music appreciation. What are some of the quickest easiest exams and courses I can take to finish up with in the year? Maybe I am a little burned out, but I am hitting a bit of a wall as I near the finish line. What are you thoughts?

Also, I am worried about them having Org Behavior as man 311. Should I have them change that to psy-361?

Thanks and I promise to pay it forward.

I wanted to take a minute to encourage you!! First, a year is a long time. What is the absolute WORST possible outcome!?!?! THE WORST is that you'll have to spend another enrollment fee. I have 4 kids and we are a 1 income family, I get it, and we don't have that kind of money laying around either- but at the end of the day, your kids and husband trump this plan. So, you'll work the plan because you are smart enough (judging by your excellent grades so far) you've got great resources (ta-da IC forum!) and you have found the best thing in the world for moms (CLEP exams!). So, one by one, you'll study when you can, and you'll study hard, and you'll pass. You're not going to fail. Simply put one step in front of the other, work the plan, and you WILL graduate. It's that simple.

Before day's end, someone will be able to help you look over this plan (I'm running out the door) but you're in the right place. You'll get rolling, and you can do this. Of course, it's scary, but worry about that later. For now, it's time to study! Smile

You will do fine and get this knocked out in a year. Try looking at these two lists for ease: CLEP & DSST. Of course these have to be balanced with your own interests and prior knowledge, but you should be easily able to map out your last few tests.

Why are you taking Global Environmental Change instead of just another test or two? You say that everything else will be CLEP, DSST, PF or other options, but you will also have to take the capstone.

You also have the option of extending your enrollment for up to three months for $233 per month, but I am confident that you have so few classes left, you will be done within a year.

Thanks for the encouragement. That is why this forum is so great because everyone has had a lot of the same experiences going through this process.

I looked at your evaluation and I think your in good shape. There are plenty of easier CLEP and DSST tests that you have not taken to fill your empty spots. Although I have not taken PF Music and Art Appreciation courses, you may want to consider one for your last humanites requirement if you are burnt out on testing. Otherwise the World Religions dsst is very doable. You may want to consider taking the Environment & Humanity DSST after your Global Environment course, I thought the exam was easy, and you will have even more knowledge than I did.

Another test to consider taking in the next month is the Vietnam dsst. I took it last May and I thought it was easy, partly because there were some Vietnam War documentaries shown on TV Memorial Day weekend that I watched which made studying easier. I would bet those same documentaries will be shown again this month. I think the most helpful one was the National Geographic Channel, it was 2 or 3 hours long, it complemented the flashcards nicely.

The Management Information Systems exam was very doable as well. I hadn't taken a computer class in 10 years I did well with only 7 days of studying. I have also taken the Humanites Clep exam, but if you are burnt out I would not recommend it unless you have some other previous knowledge, that exam takes a long time to study for.
Clep's Passed: Humanites 70, Sociology 60, Psy 74, HG&D 61, EP 64
DSST's Passed: World Religions 480, Vietnam War 67, Environment & Humanity 67, M&B 64, MIS 449, Org Beh. 64, CJ 437, SA 450, USSR 64, CW 66,
Penn Foster: Fin. Man.
Did all the aleks stuff

I just wanted to bump this thread to illustrate how awesome this forum is. A little over six months ago I was really doubting myself and my ability to finish my degree. With a gentle slap in the face saying get yourself together and support from the people in this forum I was able to do it. It is a little premature for my I'm done thread, but I was able to get all my requirements done. I am currently taking my capstone and only I had to pay a little bit to extend my enrollment. I will put in my graduation paperwork in a couple of weeks. Thanks again for everyone's help and support.
