Hope I'm posting in the right area. The wealth of info here has been tremendous so big thanks to everyone here making this possible.
Maybe I'm choosing a subject not meant for mostly cbe but thought I'd check. Anyone working towards a ba in philosophy? I'm thinking of going that direction but I'm not seeing many exams beyond the gen ed req's and wondering if I'm missing some. Ethics, intro philosophy & FEMA are the only ones I see besides the 60 gen ed. Anything I'm missing that I could take to fulfill ul credits? I'm looking at tesc but open to change if it will fit better. Thanks for your input.

I don't think you can come close to testing out of a philosophy degree, but you can with a humanities degree.

Thanks Sanantone. I had a feeling I may need to rethink this. Thanks for the link to your humanities degree.

And remember, if you do find philosophy credit that looks interesting to you, you can use it! You can use it in your general ed humanities, general ed electives, humanities are UL and LL, and free electives. Honestly, you probably have enough options that you'll be able to squeeze in anything you can find.

Thanks cookderosa. You're right. I might as well throw some more fun exams in where I can!

Thanks for the link Dewisant.
I think my problem is that I don't have much interest in humanities major as a whole. The arts, foreign language etc doesn't do it for me. I like law and ethics so i thought philosophy would be a better fit. I wanted to major in business and philosophy but i don't see that working cost-wise if i have to take a dozen b&m philosophy classes. Business major it is then! Thanks for the suggestions all.

University of London has a 3 year, distance, Philosophy AB/BA you could get. That is what I wanted when I first looked into the non-trad scene.

Empire State College (TESC's NY cousin) accepts lots of CLEP/DSST and allows you to major in philosophy. (which is officially a concentration under the broader "cultural studies" area of study) Some of their regulations are a bit more rigid than TESC but in terms of curriculum design they are probably even more flexible than TESC for most majors. Tuition is more or less comparable to TESC for both in-state and out-of-state students. If you want to branch out into global studies or the like, you're free to do that too. ESC is often overlooked here but they're flexible in their own regard and they don't cost too much, especially if you're bringing in transfer credits or exam credit.

That's because we're allergic to residency requirements. hilarious
