Meaning if I complete 1 degree first, I’ll have to pay the 2nd/3rd/4th diploma on my own, which is theoretically fine, until you remember that the South African minimum wage is just over $2000 PER YEAR.

I would seriously hope that after graduating with a business or computer science degree, you would not be limited to minimum wage jobs.

Oh trust me when I say, a degree is useless when there’s no opportunities in the first place. While I love this country to death, you simply can’t survive if you either 1) don’t have connections or 2) have some form of foreign income. 

Middle class in South Africa is considered to be a HOUSEHOLD income of around >R180 000 or $9924.68 PER YEAR. That comes around to just over $800 p/m for the ENTIRE household, not even just one person. Do you think $800 p/m is liveable for a family of four? Family of five? And remember that’s middle class (before tax btw), not even lower class. To put it into prospective: only 31.5% of South Africans are privileged to even be in this situation (lower middle class- 17.6%;upper middle class-12.1%; Upper class- 1.8%) The other 68.5% of South Africans are making even less than that. 

Meaning if you only made $1000 pm/$12000 p/a, you would be making more than the average middle class HOUSEHOLD income in South Africa. That’s why I want to finish my degree and leave, there’s no opportunities here for residents.

Hey I mean at least it makes South Africa very cheap for foreigners?
