Charter Oak CyberSecurity Degree
#1
All,

Has any one looked into the new BS CyberSecurity Degree offered at Charter Oak? Thinking this may be right up my alley. Just not sure if it is feasible to test out of for the most part. Only transferring in two classes...

US History I
General Psychology

How do I plot this out? Just download the degree requirements and then match them to the available tests?

Advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Obviously the gen ed can be tested out of.

For the Cybersecurity section, I would just ask them if you can test out of anything. Here are the inexpensive courses I know of, just ask if any of these are equivalents to their requirements:

TEEX Cybersecurity courses (free):
Cybersecurity for Everyone
Cybersecurity for Business Professionals
Cybersecurity for IT Professionals

Saylor ($25):
Intro to Computer Science (Java-based, programming related)

CLEP ($80):
Info Systems and Computer Applications

DSST ($80):
Intro to Computing
Management Information Systems
Fundamentals of Cybersecurity

TECEP ($114):
Network Technology

Straighterline ($99/mo + course fee):
Programming for C++
IT Fundamentals

CSU-Global ($250):
Cloud Computing & Big Data
Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing
Info Systems Analysis & Design
Info Systems Design & Management

OK. So I went through and tried to match things up the best I could. Here is what I have come up with so far. I have only managed to account for 41 credits. 6 of which were transfer creds. The rest are from DSST, CLEP and Saylor. For the life of me, I can't figure out how the rest work. I have attached my spreadsheet. Please let me know if this is even possible. At this point, I am probably better off doing Business, History, or Computer Science.

This was just a reminder for myself on what I needed to do and the programs I was looking into for CyberSecurity.
I think it's a better choice if you choose Excelsior or WGU, if you want cheap/fast, go for TESU CIS.
Excelsior/WGU allows you to apply certifications towards your BS Degree, which is nice, saves $ over their course offerings.

Ultimately, you have to decide which offering is more suited for you, the UL courses are the harder ones to find for COSC
Note: You may want to view a few threads, some people were starting with COSC and are almost done
Others have thought about it further and decided on the TESU BSBA CIS

Steps to follow for maximum Transfer credit to Big 3 and/or WGU

1) Create an ACE Credit Registry account for transcripts
2) Complete Kaplan PLA (ACE Recommendation Expired 4/30/2016), Institutes Ethics, (FEMA, NFA and TEEX courses)
3) Get ACE for above & transcripts from old college/university
4) Create a course template/plan for credit transfer to Big 3 and/or WGU
5) If missing credits, use ALEKS for Math/Stat, Penn Foster, Saylor & Straighterline for rest
6) Apply to Big 3 and/or WGU, get evaluation, and try to appeal as much credits as possible
7) Decide on which of the Big 3 and/or WGU you want to go into and finish degree as planned
8) Obtain degree/transcript and apply to Masters Program (using IT Certs for credit)

Note: Try and use same IT Certs for credit in Bachelors and Masters, might get lucky.
I would highly recommend WGU over the Big 3, see their programs here.
