I'm currently at Old Dominion University going after a Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree. I had spent 10 years in the Navy doing electronics but wanted to learn "the other half" to be better rounded. (I was, and plan to go back to work offshore oil field. When I was out there I realized I needed to know more than electronics for the job I wanted)
I had forgotten that I sent all my transcripts to TESU before I started at ODU and saw that I am 29 Credits from 2 different (though related) degrees.
BSAST Electronics Engineering Technology
BSAST Electrical Technology
They work out to be roughly 11-16 classes left depending on the degree I pursue and how TESU will apply the credits I've earned from ODU.
If I stay with ODU and keep the Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree, I'm about 28 classes to go after this semester ends.
I'm really torn. I could go with TESU and knock out my degree quickly and then pursue a masters degree in Technology, Engineering Management, or an MBA. Though I've considered about doing the leveling courses and obtaining a Masters degree in Engineering.
I hadn't really thought about all of this until last week when I was talking to some friends of mine that are still in the Navy and were looking at schools. I recommended them to check out this site and to look at the big three. It was then when I remembered the MVP.TESU link, as well that I had started the process with TESU. So this was all out of sight, out of mind until I was showing them the site.
I'm just torn right now as to what I should do. If I do get a Masters in Engineering, then ABET will come into play as I am looking at a Petroleum Engineering or a Subsea Engineering degree. Anything else, I don't think the ABET matters, just my grades and work resume. No idea if getting a degree from TESU would hold me back from getting a Technology Masters from Drexel or Perdue.
If anyone would like to share their thoughts.
Words of advice, shake me out of the wondering thoughts, tell me to drop ODU.. etc.. I'm all ears.
If anyone has gotten a technical degree from TESU I'd love to hear from you. What do your employers think about it? Are you happy with it? Would you do it again, or go another route?
Thank you to anyone in advance that chimes in!
DSST - Technical Writing - 441
CLEP - College Composition - 69
Can only test out of 2 more classes for my degree:
CLEP - Analyzing and Interpreting Literature - TBD

No info on what you SHOULD do, but a thought that if you decide on the BSAST at TESU, take any of the Area of Study courses that aren't easy to find while still at ODU, especially the UL courses you'll need (I'm not sure how many you'll need, but that is normally what is harder to find - a lot of the military courses come over as LL courses as far as I've seen). Not sure if they will let you take those UL courses without having the LL courses completed already?
Also, the Electronics Engineering Technology is only an ASAST (associates).
The only courses I know that you can find inexpensively in the AOS is Project Management at Sophia.org for $329 and Quality Management at CSU-Pueblo IS for $495.

It's weird that there is a disconnect between their Academic Evaluation tool and what the Majors list.
Below are the two degrees and what TESU (per the Academic Evaluation Tool)says I have left before I get my ACE and ODU transcripts sent over.

Does anybody know where I can find courses on the electrical subjects and transfer them in?
I only need 1 credit for DC circuits, and 1 credit for Digital Electronics + Lab. TESU doesn't have a test out option from what I saw. I'd do that if I could.

in my opinion, the trouble with technical degrees at TESU is that you really have to "bring in" the majority of credit. If you stay at ODU, you can take your classes with them.
If you do a cost comparison, BE SURE you factor in the added costs of "finding" these classes and taking them elsewhere. Sometimes fewer credits is NOT FASTER or CHEAPER.
Without breaking this down myself, I'm going to guess it makes the most sense to stay at ODU.

TESU offers all of the required courses for its engineering degrees. I assume they had to in order to earn ABET accreditation. TESU offers all of the required courses for all of the degrees on this page.

Is TESC ABET accredited for all their programs? I thought it was just the Nuke program. Good stuff.

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

TESU has ABET accreditation for Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology and Electronics System Engineering Technology.
Thomas Edison State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and has specialized accreditation for its nursing and educational leadership programs
ODU has the better name, but TESU is cheaper and more flexible.
