The only problem might be that while I've heard great things about the documentary (it's Ken Burns after all), it might not cover everything you need to know to pass the DSST. It could easily cover a bunch of stuff not needed, and not cover what the test covers.

If this actually was for reals... I would totally do it. I would watch the hell out of some documentaries if it meant I could pass an exam after. I love learning that way.

I passed the DSST Vietnam exam and never read a book on Vietnam. Do not underestimate the history channel.

I do understand many do not retain facts on TV.

We are on #4 tonight and have already learned much of this exam. Exams are written by teachers (non Vets). Its not about War, machines, bullets, tanks, F4 Fighters etc. Its about politics.

I think I heard of this or a Civil War documentary recommended for a DSST years ago on this forum. I haven't taken any of the history DSSTs. I used Annenberg videos to supplement IC for a few CLEPs based on others' experiences with the videos.

I know the civil war videos helped me with my test, it was interesting and got some good facts out of it. I like learning that way also.

I haven't watched the Vietnam series yet, but I will. The Civil War series was incredible and I think his Vietnam series won some awards. I checked, and this is included in Amazon Prime.

I don't know if this happens for others, but if I "only" watch, I can get a good global understanding, but without seeing the words/names/cities/etc. it is hard for me to recognize them later in print. ESPECIALLY foreign words (names of cities or people). But, if the closed captions are good, that's what I'll try when I watch this one. I didn't think to do that with Civil War.

Probably would work with some flashcard bonuses. When I took it years ago I remember watching some Youtube series on it. Great way to learn IMO.
