Zoologists don't make that much. Since these are averages rather than medians, I suspect that some of these figures are skewed high.

They seemed a bit high to me as well.
I know for a fact that an entry-level job at a zoo (actually working with the animals) pays roughly the same as working at McDonalds - at least here in CA where pay for fast-food is high. For the amount of schooling needed, you might be more fulfilled at a zoo, but you wouldn't get paid nearly enough to pay off those student loans you may have amassed.

If you get a graduate degree, you can expect to work your way up to making about $60k. I believe that's the median income for a zoologist.

I've come to question the validity of articles like that. They seem to imply that it's as simple as: get the degree=> get that 6 figure pay. It mentions those are average pays so definitely not entry pay. Of course, as sanantone mentioned, the higher pay often doesn't come until graduate degrees & years of experience happen. Even then, it may be inflated numbers.

I'm wondering if Zoology would be an undergrad major for someone hoping to go to vet school? I noticed the premed listed as a valuable major, and the "rest" of the story that's left out of that statement is that you have to ACTUALLY GO to med school and graduate lol. Perhaps that was what zoology folks did?
