Thinking about going to TESU need help!
#11
I will agree with everyone else, even with 61cr transferred into TESU (and they will take them all), you're still $7800 away from a degree.  And that's assuming you take 2 Study.com courses to get your affiliate membership, take 2 courses plus the capstone through TESU (again with the affiliate membership discount) and get the residency waiver with the discount.  If you don't do all of this (enroll, take a Study.com course, register for the 3 courses you need prior to 6/30, and pay the residency waiver prior to 6/30, the total price will go up a lot (probably another $2000).

I would look at EC's degrees (BS in CJ with a HLS concentration or BS in HLS & EM w/area of emphasis).  I would also look at APU's HLS degree, even though they'll take fewer credits, they will take all 60cr from a CC plus another 30cr from ACE, and their courses are actually cheaper than EC's or TESU's ($810/course), so probably a similar cost to TESU.

Remember that EC's courses, even with the Study.com affiliate membership, are $1230 each.

This is just one of those degrees where TESU doesn't come out way ahead - in which case, look at other options as well.

I did find Excelsior more flexible with CC credits and making some of them UL.  I did not feel TESU was as flexible.  I still think apply to both.  YOU will never really know until you do.  You might be still too early to really know.

Look at the core EM classes for both Excelsior College/TESU and start taking CC courses and exams in these subjects.

Also if you choose TESU or EC, look into taking courses at AMU/APU and transferring them in.

Study.com courses are some of the cheapest, but they have mostly basic courses which you already have Sad

You could do a more general degree in Liberal Studies which would be cheaper and faster.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! all this information if really helping me out. My goal is to get a Bachelors degree as quick and as cheap as possible. I'm willing to choose a different are of study if that will be cheaper and quicker. My goal is to eventually get into Law enforcement and I want a BS degree so I could potentially get promoted in the future. I don't think in law enforcement they really care about which degree you have as long as you have the credits. If Liberal Studies would be cheaper then I might go that route.

If a different degree will be easier and cheaper for my goal (To get a job in law enforcement/potentially get promoted in the future) then I'm all for it. I originally picked HLS because I thought the price wouldn't be that much different, but I think a degree in something more general wouldn't be bad for my goals. Let me know what you guys think and once again thanks for all the replies, it means a lot.

Yeah, a general one Liberal Studies would not only be cheaper but faster. You would have more choices, so you could choose subjects you like or know. I don't think it makes sense to spend more time and effort if you don't need the specific degree.

You would still want to compare the Liberal Arts degree at Excelsior with the BALS from TESU, because Excelsior will probably give you more for your existing credits.

You most likely are correct that any degree will work just to start.

The HSEM degree might give you other options in life and your career that a liberal arts degree will not.  I know cops that moved away from carrying a gun into emergency management.  Some even teach it.

If you just want the fastest, cheapest degree, then the TESU BALS is probably the easiest.  If you utilize Shmoop for your UL courses, you can get 5 UL English/Lit courses for $85 (if you did them all in a single month).  If you want to go another route, you can use DSST's, or you can do some Study.com courses, or a few Saylor ones, or different things - just depends on what you want to do.  But you only need 5 UL courses to complete the AOS, which is great.

Whatever you choose, you can do for less than $5000 (my spreadsheet assumes $100 per course, but that is easily lowered due to SL coupons, a Study.com scholarship or doing more than 2 courses in a month, using Shmoop, etc.

Here's an updated spreadsheet for you that includes the BALS.

I have decided that I will most likely be going with the HLS/EM Degree instead of the BALS degree. I'm thinking I will go through with it at TESU because I believe they are affiliated with Brookdale. You think I could obtain this degree under $5000? I'm waiting to be accepted which should be in a few days. What do you think my next move should be? Should I be on study.com or? Can i take courses like FEMA or anything else for credits towards that degree? I'm very new to this whole process. I'm thankful to have people like you on this forum because I'm so clueless lol thanks!

Since Brookdale community college is in NJ, the OP should get a block transfer of his associate's at TESU. I don't know exactly what that will mean, if anything, but it might be worth an application fee and sending a transcript to find out. Do you still live in NJ? If so, tuition will be discounted (in state) even without study.com.
