Transcript Evaluation Help Please
#1
First off I would like to say that this is a wonderful forum rich with information and I am simply amazed at what people have been able to accomplish.

My current school has me in the loop of the unachievable degree so I am very strongly considering one of the "Big 3" because I desperately need to finish my accounting degree as quickly and inexpensively as possible. I also plan to sit for the CPA exam.

Could someone please give me an idea of what will transfer to the three different schools based on the courses I have taken. I would do an official transcript evaluation for each school but financially that is not an option right now. I have tried to figure it out myself but I am quite lost in all but the most obvious course equivalencies.

I realize I will have to pick up Cost Accounting somewhere and transfer that in but is there anything else I might need? Can I test out of any additional classes (non-accounting)? I would like to avoid taking any non-essential classes, testing out is highly preferred. Are there any other considerations I should be taking into account? Thanks in advance!

COSC doesn't offer an accounting concentration with their Business Admin degree, but you have enough accounting credits for a BSBA in Accounting from TESC, and you may already have what you need for an accounting degree from Excelsior. That means you could wait to take Cost Accounting until after your degree is conferred. I assume that among your accounting credits are 6 in Intermediate Accounting although none of the course titles explicitly say that they are.

The only things that jumps out at me is that you might need Precalculus or College Algebra, and, more important, Business Policy (capstone business course).

^ Yep... at the very least you need Precalc, TESC requires it.

Thank you for the replies, it is very much appreciated! I didn't notice that COSC doesn't offer an accounting degree until you mentioned it. Thanks for pointing that out. Intermediate Accounting is titled Financial Reporting at my current school so that requirement will be satisfied. Do non-traditional class titles typically cause issues in receiving credit?

For precalculus I presume I can either test out via CLEP or take it online at a community college.

Also, can the capstone course be taken elsewhere (assuming I can find a cheaper equivalent) or is there a special exam I can take?

I am unable to determine if TESC has a residency requirement, must I take at least one course at their school? I found this: All students must complete a capstone requirement, Business Policy, which integrates content across the degree program and validates the students' knowledge...but it doesn't state this course must be taken at TESC, just that it must be completed.

Thanks again for the replies! Smile

Take a look at ALEKS for the pre-calculus or calculus, just guessing from looking at your past work, there might be a solution with ALEKS that would allow you to get that out of the way quickly and inexpensively.

Just search ALEKS here on the forums.

Good luck !

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

ALEKS doesn't have calculus, does it? It does have precalculus, though.

I'd look at Adams State College for Business Policy unless you don't want to hassle with having an additional transcript, in which case take care of it at TESC, if you choose to enroll there. You can take an exam with TESC to satisfy that requirement.

Yeah, I was sure about precalculus, thats why I posted. Just went and checked, precalculus is listed and it's ACE approved.

ALEKS is $20 a month, though if one is math savvy it can be done with as litle as one quiz, worth looking into Qpon, its a very frugal choice if your headed to one of the Big 3.

QponQueen, for the capstone course, you can either take the course at TESC, take TESC's exam (TECEP), or take the course elsewhere and transfer it in. If you want to transfer it, be sure to check with TESC beforehand. Here is information on the TECEP exams: Thomas Edison State College | Testing (TECEPÂ).

TESC does not have a residency requirement. You can transfer in 100% of your degree.
