You have ignorant people on both sides, so I don't know why politics need to be injected in this conversation.

There is nothing for free regardless of who promises it (and yes, that includes Obama)...someone will pay for it. That someone who will foot the bill will be the taxpayer.

Many colleges use endowments to offer tuition breaks. Those don't come from taxpayers; those come from voluntary donations.

Fair enough - some colleges may provide a "free" education under a strict set of circumstances but I believe that the vast majority don't and/or won't. These institutions rely on government subsidies and federal loan programs - therefore they use taxpayer monies.

Ok- let's smack this right back into focus.

Can someone share a link to ANY graduate degree offered via distance learning for free?

If the teachers would work for free and the book publishers would publish books for free and the parking lot pavers would also work for free we would have free education and parking for all.
Sadly those people care more about profits than student education so they insist on being compensated for their labor and capital.

There will never be any free education. The closest thing you can get to it is visiting your library and reading the books you find but I pay over 300 per year per house I own for county library services. That is significantly more than I pay for Netflix and my internet connection so I guess even that is not free.

A lot of private schools offer full-ride scholarships and financial aid packages to poor and middle-class students. They just don't advertise themselves as being free. They aren't most schools, but there are plenty out there and they don't have a strict set of circumstances. Not distance learning, but several small private schools either make students work for their degrees or they completely survive off of donations. The schools do not take any government subsidies, grants, or loans.

I don't know if you would count the Naval Postgraduate School. They offer online degrees that are pretty much always free for students, but they require employer sponsorship. The OP mentioned another school: Nations University. They just aren't accredited yet. However, they are approved to operate in Louisiana.

I don't know if it's still offered, but I just found this article from last year.

I know the UT here in Tampa is kind of expensive and that they do give scholarships pretty liberally because of that. I went to their site and plugged in 600 math/600 reading as SAT scores plus 3.7 gpa and the calculator said I would qualify for 11,000 per year in scholarships. That sounds like a lot of money. Of course that is for undergrad and its just an estimate but I think the private schools overcharge and then shovel out scholarships to offset the cost.
