Bachelor of Science in Business with Concentration in Accounting...Excelsior College
#1
I noticed there are a few people getting their degrees from Excelsior and I was hoping to get some information from someone who is in the accounting program.

I have applied to the college and have been accepted but I am still waiting on my audit of my previous course work. I am concerned about the concentration requirements of the degree, intermediate 1, intermediate 2, cost accounting and taxation. When I look on their website none of these courses are listed to take.

I can't complete the rest of my degree without financial aid. How am I supposed to complete these courses if they are not offered at the college and still use the financial aid?

Also I was wondering how long it took to get your prior course audit from them? I have gotten two different responses from their website.

Excelsior doesn't offer a lot of courses, which is why I chose to go to TESC instead. If you didn't already pay the enrollment fee, maybe you should consider switching. TESC offers a BSBA in Accounting that can be completed 100% online.

TESC offers the following accounting courses online:

Principles of Financial Accounting (ACC-101)
Principles of Managerial Accounting (ACC-102)
Intermediate Accounting I (ACC-201)
Intermediate Accounting II (ACC-202)
Cost Accounting (ACC-303)
Advanced Accounting I (ACC-401)
Advanced Accounting II (ACC-402)
Auditing (ACC-411)
Federal Income Taxation (ACC-421)

Federal Income Taxation is also offered through guided study. I believe the only major difference is that TESC's courses have proctored mid-terms.

I might change my concentration from General Business to concentration in accounting and plan to get my Inter Acct I, II, and Cost Accounting at Penn Foster for only 270 dollars for each course, which includes books. This is still a much cheaper route for upper division units. The other 2 courses you can get at a local community college online.

Be aware that you might not meet CPA educational requirements if you went this route.

I would strongly recommend LSU for all of the accounting courses - they are both RA and AACSB-accredited at roughly 250 a course.

yes, that would be a good idea. If you are in California, they accept DETC and Regionally accredited courses for accounting, but it's always a good idea to check with your state first.

I had to apply for financial aid and take out a loan. Then i took the test through penn foster. do a search for penn foster and call the business line you will find in the search. you can take one class at a time. they cost any where from 200 to 300 dollars a course. when you get to the upper level classes you take them at lsu independent study for 250 each class. i hope that this helps.
