Whew! That was close call, interesting enough about 30 or so institutions were wanting to either buy them out or partner with them; however, it was decided by Montclair State to provide funding until they make the affiliation agreement or merger... Bloomfield has a niche market but a rapidly declining enrollment... can you believe it, just 1 single grad student and about 1300 undergrads.!?

"More than 70% of its students are eligible for federal Pell Grants."
So maybe this school should be closed due to the
new 90/10 rules, or is this an example of rules for thee but not for me?

How can a school have a grad program with 18 students? Let alone 1. The tuition from grad students wouldn't be enough to fund a grad program and professors. Was it kept afloat (barely) as a means to serve minority students? Why does one choose to attend Bloomfield College over Montclair State University as they both appear to focus on minority students? Surely the university could absorb 1200 students as they already have 16000. Financial aid and tuition is how Bloomfield paid their bills. Sounds like they need a fundraising department and an endowment.
Small private schools were struggling before the pandemic. The pandemic just exposed how bad their situations were. I'm seeing that locally with a number of small private colleges. How does a school with 700 students stay afloat? These colleges are in rural areas as well. Sure it's beautiful here, but what college student cares about the scenery? They aren't near a metro. They aren't near the beach. They get a boatload of snow instead. Most students at these schools aren't from the region. Many are legacy students which can also be a problem.
