This question might be specific to home schooled high school students taking CLEP/DSST while still in high school.
Home schooled daughter (age 17) passed her first CLEP exam: College Composition Modular with exactly a 50. She's not great at timed standardized exams, so I'm actually thrilled and so is she.
She'll graduate from high school in May 2018, but is currently dual-enrolled at a local 4-year university. She would like to attend there full-time beginning in the fall of 2018. Unlike many on this forum, TESC is not her plan, but she does hope to maximize CLEP/DSST as the local university will permit up to 40 credits by exam. The local university gives 1 semester of freshman English for the College Composition Modular exam with a score of 50 or higher.
So WHEN is the best time to send the CLEP scores? Is it normal to send them now at least to the school where she is dual-enrolled? Is it best to wait until she's accepted sometime next year?

Congratulations!!!!
The college will prompt you the right time to send her transcripts when she changes from dual enrolled to degree-seeking. She can do it then, and her CLEP transcript will have all her scores (if she takes more exams) and then after that, if she takes an exam, she can indicate on the computer at the start of her exam to automatically send a (free) score report to the college. That removes the need to purchase transcripts after this one.

You should just ask the college if she's considered an enrolled student, and if she is, she can send them as she takes the exams. That way, you won't have to pay for transcripts.
Also, make sure she checks with the school before taking any exams to make sure that they are accepted there. They will probably not take every exam that CLEP offers, or will not "count" in areas where she'd like them to. So just keep checking.
It's great that she's doing this, between the dual-enrolled classes and CLEP exams, it will save you a bundle! A ½ price college degree, woot woot!

Thanks for the congratulations! DD (dear daughter) was nervous her score of 50 was not great, but a pass is a pass. This board is full of amazing students who pass these exams (DSST/CLEP, etc) with flying colors, giving the delusion that the exams are easy, which they are not.
We did hear back from the local university where she's dual enrolled. They were thrilled about the CLEP pass and wanted to know what class she'd like to take in the fall. She'll take an in-seat course for which there is no option to test out. Dual-enrollement tuition is substantially discounted.
I have talked to relatives and friends with children in the traditional school system extensively, trying to explain the benefits of credit by exams. This frequently falls on deaf ears. The common response is that Student-X has taken 1 or 2 AP classes and that somehow gets them a jumpstart on college. Our family will save a huge amount of money and DD hopes to finish a 4 year degree at least a year early.

I'm trying to spread the word as well. My DD's friend's high school does not have any AP courses, but they do offer honors courses, so I just told her about CLEP exams - our state schools will accept them, so I told her that after an honors course is completed, she might be well on her way to passing a CLEP test and getting college credit while in HS, and she's excited about that. As is her mom, who will be paying for college!

LOL, sometimes telling people about the benefits of credit by alternative means, they think you're just joking around, that's because they're clueless about it...
People who aren't thinking outside the box or are too traditional would want their children or themselves to go the traditional way through school. I get that ALL
the time. I tell people about the benefits, and if they take it great, if not, no worries. Sometimes it lights a fire within them and that desire grows, others not.
