What does my wife's BA/BS degree situation look like to you?
#1
She has completed an A.A. from Excelsior, every class except information literacy was completed at a four year institution. I know there are a couple classes not listed here, I will update the post when I get that information from her, this was pulled off of her Excelsior transcript which is missing a at least nine credits, but I believe all her upper level credit is accounted for.

The degree focus is not decided, and a liberal arts degree does sound somewhat appealing to her. I'm still looking for the BA liberal arts outline from Excelsior, can somebody help me track that down?

Any observations concerning what school she should attend or degree focus is greatly appreciated.

A music major was originally the goal; however, because the degree is coming from a distance learning institution we have tentatively decided that this would be undesirable, so liberal arts is our tentative conclusion.

intro to stats 3hrs
rhetoric and writing 1 3 hrs
music theory I 3 hrs
gen psych 4 hrs
advanced music theory 3 hrs
rock and roll music 3 hrs
intro to sociology 4 hrs
intro to cultural anth 3 hrs
mus theory III 3 hrs (upper level)
gen astronomy I 3 hrs
acting workshop I 3. hrs
jazz history 3 hrs
gamelan ensembl 1 hr
music theory 4 3 hrs
physics in everyday life 3 hrs
intro physics lab 1 hr
intro to ethics 3 hrs
private instruction: Voice lessons 1 hr
Philosophy: death/dying 3 hrs (upper)
abnormal psych 3 hrs (upper)
theory and practice in VAPA 3 hrs (upper)
information lit (penn foster) 1 hr
-----------------

I know this isn't a huge amount of data, but even just refining questions will help me get this idea rolling, and of course I will have to collaborate with my wife quite a bit between posts so be patient...hopefully she can take over, but at the moment she is at work and has charged me with getting the ball rolling.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Hi RIckyJo,

Congratulations to you both on your AAs!!cheersmate

Looks like she would be a perfect candidate for a BA in Music?
Thomas Edison State College | BA in Music Credit Distribution

For courses she does not have or are not available she could think about completing PLA's and can just attach videos or mp3 files..etc as part of the assessment.

I'm so sad, I used to know all of this, lol, but how many of the 27 free electives can be satisfied by simply utilizing FEMA? If it's a good chunk than this is looking really good!

Yes, the max allowed is currently 25.

*I would not start with all 25 FEMAs until an evaluation is completed and she knows what will fall where. She may already have credits that will end up in free electives. Also, remember TESC accepts EMIs transcript direct so the credits are completely free of charge.

New catalog in effect 7/1/11. So at that time, I would just check the BA program again to confirm the # of free electives and the # of fema credits awarded again.

I wonder if the music classes go under humanities at TESC? She could do a BA in Humanities instead of BALS which sounds more focused.
