Charter Oak adding new requirement
#1
I don't know if this was posted already but I was just reading through the 2012-13 COSC catalog and noticed the following

"Note: In the Spring of 2013, it will be required of all students
that IDS 099 (Orientation) be taken prior to matriculation.
Once matriculated, the prerequisite for all other courses is
ENG 101 (English Composition 1). If the student has already
successfully completed that requirement prior to
matriculation, he or she will be enrolled into IDS 101
(Cornerstone), otherwise, ENG 101 will be the first course
taken."

So now COSC requires orientation, the cornerstone and the capstone (unless they plan on taking english at COSC).

For those who are holding off registering, I would consider registering soon as the big 3 seem to be going away from the pure "assesment" degree.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Thank you for the update.

Excelsior College requires a free, non-credit orientation class, too. It is just to give students a better idea of how the college works and the resources that are available to help with the process. Undergraduate Student Orientations - excelsior.edu

I wonder if Chater Oak will be the same - free and non-credit?

Being that it is required before matriculation, and COSC says the "first" course after the orientation is Eng101, I'm guessing you may be right. But someone looking to eventually use COSC as their school may want to check on this.

I am so glad I already graduated. I'm still thinking about getting a BSBA from TESC before they add anymore requirements. Although, I am not surprised by COSC's new English prerequisite. Being open enrollment, I could imagine that many of the students can barely put together a sentence during the cornerstone.
