Am I going to be able to take any of these via ALEKS or Straighterline?

burbuja0512 Wrote:Good ideas! If you're curious on how you'll do on analyzing & interpreting lit, make sure to do a Peterson's test. I'm pretty sure you know this, but in case you don't, you can get some free practice exams at free-clep-prep.com. I didn't discover this until late in the game, but it is nice to do if you have the time. Not to mention you can review the ones you get wrong and use that as additional study!

I am happy to help with your schedule. Here's what I did.

Set up a spreadsheet with multiple tabs:

Tab #1 - list out your entire degree plan, including what you already have and of course, what you still need
Tab #2 label as April - what will you do this month and on what date
Tab #3 label as May - List each test that you will be taking in May and a date.
Tab #4... etc.. you see what I mean? Make a tab for each month until you're done.

I did this and then had a specific pattern after each test. I would come home IMMEDIATELY after I had taken each test and get on the computer right away. (ha ha ha I am serious. I would go to the computer before I would even go to the restroom or grab a bite to eat!) I would do the following: first of all, I would highlight in green on my spreadsheet the test that I just took along with my score and number of credits that I just added. Then, I would go on to the specific feedback forum and post my comments. I figured that I gained so much from the specific feedback forum that I wanted to 'pay it back' and get some good testing karma while the CLEP/DSST was still fresh in my mind. Then, I would change my signature to add the test I just took. I know it's really stupid, but the signature motivated me. I know I read other people's signatures and was very inspired by other people here, so I wanted to show my progress too.

Just get it started and stick to it. I'm not saying that my way is the best, but it worked for me. Writing it down just now actually made me a little bit sad. This has been such a huge part of my life the past few months and it truly does go by quickly, although I know that it doesn't seem it now. I will miss testing! Good thing I can live vicariously through my DS and DH that are working on it now. Smile

And of course ask as many questions as you need! Keep posting - everyone here enjoys helping as long as you update us on your progress Wink

Thank you. That sounds like an awesome idea. I will work with what I can now and I suppose the rest will be easier to arrange on a spreadsheet once an advisor gets back to me. I can't believe this is it...I'm actually doing this!Big Grin I think I will feel awesome once I get past my first course..like I have finally hopped in the pool. I have a goal of completing ONE course (minimum) in the next week. Let's see if I can stick to it.

alleycat Wrote:Not to make this even harder for you Collegestudent, but if you have other general ed's that need to get done and math does not bother you all that much you could do several other math courses on Aleks.

Math doesn't bother me too much. However, I haven't used it for a few years and I'm very rusty. There will also be some stuff I am learning from "scratch" in essence, as I haven't used many formulas before. I took advantage of ALEKS free trial, but could only use it for about 30 minutes and had to go to sleep. It seems like it kind of breaks things down for you. I was doing the PreCalc one and a lot of stuff looked familiar, but I had forgotten the formulas. I'm the kind of person who can memorize things easily and numbers just click once I memorize the formula. I'm going to give it a swing.

You're not making it harder for me and I truly appreciate your feedback and suggestions. I was looking on my link: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...own-2.html and following Linda's advice. However, I've taken an interested in BSBA since then, so I am guessing I'll have more Math to complete. As of now, I thought I only had Intermediate Algebra to get out of the way.

I sure hope my advisor gets back to me ASAP. I'm also wondering if I should email TESC and mention to them that I am highly interested in the BSBA if it's within reason. I originally went with BA Natural Sciences and Mathematics because I thought it would be quicker/cheaper to finish. I also thought that "Mathematics" would look awesome on my resume. haha

The two degrees you are looking at are very different. For BSBA you need stat and pre cal for the gen ed portion of your degree.

Now instead of all of this pondering and submitting all of these questions you could have had interm alg already done. Which you could use for either degree under general electives. Go on the aleks thread which is 30 pages long at this point and see how to get ACE credit for these courses. Honestly you would have 6 or 9 credits done by now. My son did 3 aleks course in 2 weeks. 9 credits DONE.

As far as TESC advisors go, good luck. You are not an enrolled student they will give you very little advice. You need to navigate this one on your own. Just get started. Look at your own thread you started where all of these nice people step up and helped you try to make sense of your degree plans. Print it out and use it. Natural Science degree is a few classes and some tests, BSBA is alot of tests and some classes. Pick your poison.

For the BSBA in General Management you will need to complete not only the core, but the area of concentration and business electives, which adds up to 54 credits + four prerequisites or 12 additional credits. That equates to 19 exams/courses and at least 3 Straighterline self paced courses. In addition you will need to complete an additional 12 credits or 4 exams/self paced courses for your GenEd. So going this route you will have to complete a total of 26 courses or 78 credits by October 1st, to reach your goal of a degree by December 2011.

So for the BSBA you actually need to complete more than 3 credits per week, each and every week from now until October.

I did 72 credits in just under 6 months while running two businesses and supporting a family. So if it will provide some inspiration/competition.....lets see if you can beat/equal Gramps :roflol:

Maybe I have missed something, but I thought CollegeStudent had decided on a BSBA????

Anyway, CS, while setting goals is well and good and may help you maintain focus, if being done by December is some arbitrary goal, it could end up actually hindering you if meeting that goal takes priority over important factors such as the utility and content of the degree you get. Additionally, the BSBA and the Nat Sci degrees are quite dissimilar and usually have different audiences, so your vascillation between the two suggests that you haven't quite figured out why you are trying to get a bachelor's degree. Figure that out first, then worry about setting a target date for completion.

Wow! That's awesome. Which 3 ALEKS courses did he do? You're right. Fiance is whipping out the AmEX and we're getting me signed up TONIGHT! As of now, without having actually heard back from any advisors, it looks like I can definitely compelte the intermediate algebra via aleks. I'm going to wait to email TESC about the BSBA (General Management or Learner Designed) until my transcript arrives so that they can actually give me some solid feedback. I will knock out the 5 classes that I know I can knock out regardless, but since I am signing up with Straighterline I wanted to make the most of my money and have 3 or 4 classes that I could definitely take through them.

Wow, so this is it! I am scared to pursue the BSBA as I have never taken a single Business course in my life. I'm interested in the Human Resource, Leadership, Entreprenuership and Psychology ones that fall under General Management.

My goal is to report to you guys, in a few days, that I have earned at least ONE course (3-4 credits). You said your son completed 9 credits in a week, so I better get hopping!

So that's 12 credits a month! Oh shoot. I can't live with myself if "Gramps" beats me! hilarious No seriously, I'm on this challenge tonight!

I will be 100% honest with you. I chose BA Nat. Sci/Math because it would have been the quickest degree for me that still looks "solid" on resumes. Geezer actually told me, from the get go, that I need to ask myself which degree will show employers that I qualify for the position, etc. I knew deep down it was the BSBA, but I guess you can say I have an extreme fear of the unknown, having NEVER taken a Business class. I also realize this route will be longer and more expensive and finances came into question. I'm hoping ALEKS evens this out a bit. Going to pray and wing it.

Signing up for ALEKS when I get home tonight. I am so inspired by the amount of credits everyone has been able to complete on here, I feel compelled to earn at LEAST 3 credits a week. Going to get over my first hump. Enough talk from me....Intermediate Algebra is MINE!:reddevil: :reddevil:
