World Civ and another transfer Q: BA History
#1
As I said in my other thread, I am a transfer student with multiple degrees looking to get a BA in History. However, I don't have a ton of History credits to transfer.

My only classes that might count are :
POLSCI Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism
ANTH    Human Pre-history

These were from my undergrad years ago but I am not sure if anthropology would count as history? I am assuming the POLSCI class would count maybe?

Basically I am trying to scrap together 18 credits since I need 48 for UMPI's history standard (30 residence).

As of now I am doing
Sophia:
Spanish 1 and 2
US History 1 and 2.....so 12 credits

I know they have American GOVT but I read its better to do at UMPI? Also, they have a generic topics in US history class.

Questions:
Will the ANTH and POLSC classes count toward the major?
Should I take the other Sophia classes?

AND

Are the Western Civ classes at straighterline worth taking or should I just take them at UMPI?

ANTH, no. I don't think so. POLSC, yes. I think so.

I'm pretty sure that the Western Civ courses at SL will take longer and be more difficult than the UMPI versions. I would either go with UMPI or (if possible) the CLEP exam to cover Western Civ.

I wouldn't spend the money on StraighterLine. Everything you need for the GEC except 4A and 2D can be completed on Sophia. I'd stick with that to get close to the 90 transfer credits.

Wait, you say you have multiple degrees? If you have a bachelors' degree, then you don't have to worry about the GEC or the general electives. You only have to complete the major requirements and completing a minimum of 30 credits at UMPI.

For the History degree, World Civ is part of the major requirements: https://online.umpi.edu/degrees/undergra...l-science/

Yeah world civ is a requirement. Just wondering if it was better to take with UMPI or SL. I need 30 credits regardless

This is useful, thank you. I just cant really find a good source on SL classes and their difficulty. I am pretty good at World History but if UMPI is pretty straightforward than I might as well take it

Yup I know. I still wouldn't spend the money on StraighterLine. I'd take it at UMPI. StraighterLine costs $99 a month PLUS the fee for the course. So each one of these would cost $79 plus the $99 per month fee. Their classes are loooooong and you have to read an entire textbook. They also have proctored exams. There aren't exams in the history program at UMPI. UMPI's courses will be SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than an entire West Civ textbook. They will be much faster to complete at UMPI as well.
