Penn Foster and New Charter University's degrees will transfer to some 4-year colleges that are regionally accredited. You really are limiting your options with those schools. Penn Foster's ACE-approved courses will probably have more acceptance. If someone doesn't want to test out, then I strongly recommend attending an in-state community college (in-district is even better) or taking a look at NMJC or Clovis Community College.

I just looked up New Mexico Junior College's CLEP and residency policies today.
They'll take up to 52 credits CLEP (64 credits total for an AA or an AS), but 15 of the last 30 credits in a degree program must be taken at NMJC.

Do you know if "English Composition" and "Advanced Composition" classes from Penn Foster transfer to NMJC or Clovis Community College?

Is a Penn Foster AA or Ba self-paced, or do you have to follow semesters?
I looked New Charter before, but the website is not very clear, it says their AA in General Studies has dual admission with a regionally accredited university called Patten. On their accreditation page it says American Council on Education, but underneath it just repeats information about CHEA, and they are not on the ACE website at all
Aleks: Beginning, Intermediate, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Intro to Statistics
Straighterline: Cultural Anthropology, Religion, Biology, Environmental Science, Philosophy, Eng Comp I, C++.
Working on - Eng Comp II, Intro Comm
Sophia Intro to Psych
TEEX: CYB101, CYB201, CYB301
NFA: Q318, Q118, Q137
Kaplan: Documenting Experiences
Goal: Complete Gen Ed. requirements.

I spent a semester at Penn Foster and I can tell you that their programs are self paced.I think with the New Charter AA program, you can get enrolled at NC, take some courses there, take others at Patten and graduate with a Patten AA. It seems, I am not sure, that you pay Patten tuition when you take Patten courses. If you provide a link, someone might be able to tell you what the ACE, CHEA statement on their website refer to. Generally, when colleges talk about ACE and CHEA, they are probably stating that their courses are ACE recommended and their college is recognised by CHEA... Like I said, "probably"

Penn Foster Computer Information Systems looked interesting but I checked each ACE credit, and 5 of the classes are missing.

You also have to check the dates of ACE approval. The last time I checked, Penn Foster only had two computer courses that were currently approved.

PF is at your own pace and you can pay by the month or by the semester. Some of their courses are not ACE but the degree as a whole is nationally accredited.
NC is the same and nationally accredited. If you go the NC route to get the Patten/Regionally accredited AA but only pay the NC rates, as I understand it.
I am doing my Associates at PF now. I may switch to NC to complete my BA in management/leadership or if I really like PF just stay with them. I have even thought of switching over to Patten to knock out a BA in Psychology (Industrial-Organizational), I am not crazy about the math side of business, if they will take my PF credits. Only time will tell.
I am similar to the OP in age and that I travel a bunch. I understand that there may be "better" options for some but For mid-career, semi-guided structure, no independent test-out, no set semesters, monthly payments, all in one package with books included and only needing national accreditation. These programs seem to work very well for what I want and need.

One could just start at Patten or WGU. They work the same way.
There are also self-paced, competency based programs at Northern Arizona University, Bellevue, Capella, and University of Wisconsin. NAU's tuition is competitive.
