guided vs online tesu capstone

Everyone else that has taken the GS course has said that their Online Discussions were replaced with more formal written assignments, which would make GS more work (since the online discussions, like rlw74 stated, were easy points if you just hammer out a mindless sentence or two).

your professor/mentor must be very generous if they're letting you skip this.

That is what I was wondering too. The forum is full of people saying they had to write additional papers beyond the five modules.

I'm doing the GS right now, and the syllabus was since July 2017, a lot of people on this forum talk stuff without doing it themself and just repeat what others have said. I am stating this because I AM DOING THE CAPSTONE GS RIGHT NOW.

No professor is being generous, persons just heard someone say that the GS requires more written assognments and everyone started saying that. I chose the GS after looking at both outlines.

Here is how you are graded.

The "Online" course is graded as follows:

Online discussions (6) 23%
Written Assigjments (5) 45%
ETS Proficiency Profile 2%
Capstone Project 30%

The "GS" course is graded as follows:
Writteen Assignments (5 ) 58%
ETS Profiency Profile 2%
Capstone Project 40%

After I saw this I chose the GS as it is much easier once you are confident in your writing abilities.

Here is the official GS syllabus.

Plenty of people who actually took it have said otherwise, such as dfrecore in this thread above. Now, things appear to have changed or it could be just a difference between the business cap and the lib arts cap, but in the past other GS non-cap courses were generally structured as people have said they previously have done the GS capstone with online discussions replaced with formal writing.

No one was saying you were wrong, we're just comparing the two experiences.

At any rate, i'd still prefer the online course for the easy online discussion points to pad the grade. Unless the GS course actually provides an grade early and lets you graduate early if you finish quickly. Then I see the value in there.

Well the syllabus dosent lie, it could have changed July 2017, idk. In my case the GS seemed easier. In the online having to post every week is it? Is so much of a hassle. Unlike having an assignment due every 2 weeks.

Its personal preference, but for me if I must ever take another course I would use GS.

It's one sentence or two, if I recall correctly due every other week (the weeks you didn't have a chapter due), but you have the prompts up front. I did all of mine in the first week ahead of time, and I was guaranteed free points without doing any real work. It's a nice cushion.

Just a quick note, since it was not specified in the original post - I took the BSBA capstone, so I don't know if this applies to the BALS capstone. OP, you did not say which one you are taking, so it might behoove you to specify.

I don't think it was just randomly repeated. Many on this forum actually took the GS option. I know it applied for LIB-495 after July 2017. I looked into GS too, pretty extensively because I wanted to submit the paper early and graduate in June instead of September. I was told by several different departments at TESU that it didn't work that way . Personally it didn't seem worth it to go GS when I could get the extra points. I wasn't worried about my writing skills. I got 100 on my final paper. I'm sure it's fine if you have a good professor who actually grades on time and gives feedback. I think those going into it just need to be aware of what they are getting into. Maybe some professors still require the extra assignments.

Why would professors give written assignements? Isnt the syllabus a standard thing?
