There is a ton of great info on this exam on the Specific Exam Feeback board. You need to be an InstantCert member to view it....it is the best $10 a month you will ever spend. You get the IC cards and the wisdom of the folks that have already taken the exam. I live and die by my IC cards, Peterson tests and always always have the list of info from the Feedback forum right next to my study notes so I can check off the topics as I nail them down.
This exam also has the DSST pretest, post test and study guide all on line and that is usually a good indication of what the test will present on exam day. Testing is a system and you have to get one that works for you.

I took the personal finance course and passed. I do however, have a banking background and have prepared my own taxes. My classmate also took the DSST and passed (she does not have a banking background).
Yes, you can pass by only using IC to study, however, I would strongly suggest going to DSST - GetCollegeCredit.com and taking a practice test. There is a $5 fee to take the test but you can take it twice for one fee. It's better to spend $5 to help study than to blow $90 by failing. IC is great in terms of question content but GCC will help show you the format of the test. Hope this helps!

I used only IC and passed the exam easily. Much of the exam is common sense if you have managed your own finances. The Specific Exam forum is very helpful and well worth the monthly fee to use IC for preparing for tests. I used mostly IC and passed Principles of Supervision, Principles of Management, Ethics in America and Personal Finance all within an 8 week period of time.

What category does personal finance fall under for credit? I want to make sure I am not duplicating credit and am fullfilling some requirements I need.
Thanks in advance for advice.

According to the Student Guide for Credit by Exam, it falls into the Applied Professional category.

I went throught the flashcards and did go on vacation so I checked out the personal finance book from the library and read almost all of it and passed in less than 20 minutes. Some of the questions are just common sense. If you are fresh out of high school you might want to read through the book. Otherwise the flashcards would be enough.
Good luck!!! |
