Excelsior does require Pre-Calculus math for the BUSINESS degree, but not the LIBERAL ARTS degree. The CLEP College Algebra exam will take care of the Pre-calc math requirement, or any approved College Algebra class.
Hope that helps!

OK. I'm thinking....."I hate math! I hate math! I hate math!" I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying the College Algebra CLEP instead of the Pre-Calc. Any thoughts?

Oh man, do I hear you on that one, and so do a LOT of other people here in the forum!!!
I don't know how much Algebra experience you have, but if I were you, I would still go with the CLEP College Algebra exam because it HAS to be "easier" than the Pre-Calc.
And once you take the CLEP, we want you to post every single question and answer that was on the exam so those people who still have to take it will be sure to pass it...don't forget!!!
Good luck!

There is a CLEP College Algebra and a CLEP Precalculus, right? Are you saying you only need CLEP College Algebra to fulfill the Precalculus requirement for Business or for Liberal Arts? Sorry for the confusion

Well, here's what I don't get....in looking at Barcotta's General Business Degree template...I didn't see ONE THING on there about Algebra requirements OR Pre-Calc.

Hi hsing....I just replied to your PM but I will also post the answer here as well.
You are correct...there is both a CLEP College Algebra exam and a CLEP Precalculus exam. Unless Excelsior has changed their requirements (which I have not heard that they have), then passing the CLEP College Algebra takes care of the business degree Precalc. requirement.
Hope that helps!

Hi Matymus,
It is extremely important that EVERY ONE here needs to remember that you should not go off of someone else's degree plan...everyone is different! AND you really need to get the approval of your advisor before completing everything on your degree plan, so you don't take any unnecessary exams.
Having said that, it doesn't hurt to get feedback about what exams other people are taking to meet certain requirements, but don't take it as "gospel" that the same requirements would apply to you. I hope that makes sense!
Later tonight, I will try to post the exact list of the subjects required for the Excelsior business degree, and which exams meet those requirements. Unless someone else out there would like to get that posted before then??
As for Barcotta's plan, I'm not sure what to tell you! You might want to take a closer look at it, Barcotta...

This seems to be a significant difference (from what I've seen) between TESC and Excelsior. TESC seems to require the CLEP PreCalc.
Can anyone verify?

You are correct....TESC requires Pre-Calc. Here's Excelsior's School of Business Catalog...feel free to check it out. You may find it helpful.

Also, I found an old post by Snazz, aka O Wise One or Father Time. I think this should help clear up requirements regarding Math for Excelsior.
If you need to fulfill a "precalculus or above" requirement you have the following options:
1) CLEP College Algebra
(Excelsior accepts this exam to fulfill precalc but TESC requires Trigonometry as well.)
2) CLEP College Algebra AND CLEP Trigonometry
3) Precalculus
- If you are going to Excelsior, you should probably go with option 1 (easier of the three options).
- If you are going to TESC, you will need to go with option 2, or option 3.
- It seems to me, that it would be easier to pass ONE exam (Precalculus), than to try and pass TWO exams (College Algebra AND Trigonometry).
Personally, I haven't taken any. I would rather put my hand in a meatgrinder than to take any of these exams. But given no such alternative, I would go with College Algebra.
Hope that helps,
