Aleks is only $20.00 a month and you can switch courses at any time during the month. Smartliner is $399.00 per course.

I am just getting started here, in fact this is my first post, however I have done quite a bit of reading and investigating and Aleks is a great tool for the money. You can sign up for a free trial without a credit card and see how it works. You have a 48 hour or 3 day trial to get a good feel for its features.
I tried the Alegebra course and found it to be quite intuitive and the next best thing to working with a tutor. It presents problems and if you don't know how to do them, simply click on explain. I was sold on it and think it is a great compliment to InstantCert for financial & math classes.

However, Straighterline.com also offers non-math college courses like: English Composition, Economics I, II; Accounting I, II; and many more are in the pipeline. Also, it's actually only $99 a month for as many as you can do in a month. When I did College Algebra I finished in 3 days. Had I wanted to I could have knocked out one or two more classes and still only paid that one fee of $99. So, three college courses transcripted with letter grades and complete in less than a month for $99!! Pretty darn tough to beat that!

I agree straighterline looks pretty awesome. Any idea of a timeline on some of their potential new course offerings?

I don't get it. Straighterline does not appear to be ACE reviewed so unless you are enrolled at a "partner" school (listed on their website), how can you get credit for these? EC is not a partner school and generally will only accept credits from courses that are ACE reviewed. Anybody know more...?

Thanks

They ( Excelsior) also accepts credits from other regionally accredited colleges, so I think the people are getting a transcript from one of the partner schools and having that sent to Excelsior.

I'm interested in using StraighterLine to fulfill the general education requirements of an associates degree at a local community college. However, I'm sure I would need to get the courses examined by one of StraighterLines' partner colleges before the credits transfer over.

I know Excelsior puts the name of the institution on your transcripts when they do credit banking or transcripts evaluation. Does Charter Oak, Ellis University, Fort Hays State University, Grand Canyon University, and Potomac College do this as well?

Thanks for the reply. I am guessing there is a cost to "bank" credits with these other schools if you are not enrolled there, so this cost should be factored in to the $99 deal. Sort of like FEMA where it is free but to get the credits transferred it's $60 per credit.

Paying to get credits transferred kills the deal for me. I'm not saying it isn't a good program and it sounds like it is (letter grades are a definitie bonus), but not for me. Easier and cheaper to stick with CLEPS. $100 and an easy transfer.

I guess the better question is does anyone have direct experience with getting Straighterline credits transferred to EC and what did it cost approximately?

To answer your question my College Algebra course from Straighterline shows up on my Excelsior transcript as coming from FHSU, no mention of SL.

Most of your questions have been answered on previous posts/threads. Please do a search for "Straighterline" at your convenience. However I do want to add that the cost for me to transfer my credit from FHSU to Excelsior was $0.00. It was free. There was no cost to have FHSU send my transcript to Excelsior.
