Questions regarding TESU, & TECEP
#1
About me: Between Sophia and CC credits I have 86 credits (all lower-level, state government may be upper-level at transfer), and I’m currently attending Liberty online, and will have an additional 9 upper-level credits in early March. I’ve had some road blocks, and have fallen behind schedule, and am looking into alternative options to finish with a Bachelor’s Degree within next 12-14 months.

TESU’s BLS with no concentration looks to be a good option. The credit distribution for the BLS states “Students complete a total of 42 credits of Liberal Studies courses that include at least 15 credits at the 3000/4000 level and no more than 6 credits at the 1000 level.”
1.      What classes would generally be considered liberal studies? My 3 UL classes from Liberty would be Photography, U.S. History, and History of Graphic Design.
If my UL credits fell ideally, my gameplan would be to get 6 UL ACE credits to make a round 90s credit, add on 9 credits from Liberty, take 5 TCEPS, then take SOS-1100, and the capstone, and graduate. I’m aware of the ~$4000 waiver.
2.      Do TECEP credits count against the 90-hour credit limit? I imagine this might be my greatest question.
I’m currently in the pre-planning phase, and would likely get started with TESU in March, but wanted to see if there are any holes that would cause this plan to fail.

TECEPs don't count against the 90-credit transfer limit. The 90-credit limit is for ACE/NCCRS credits in total, then there is a separate 90 credit limit for CC, and no real limit for the credits from a 4-year university.

The BALS Wiki page should help you see the types of classes that can go into the AOS / upper level requirement:

Welcome to the board, it's great you're asking questions to get started, it's best to provide more details by filling in the addendum and template here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Liberal Studies can be anything (not applied or business related classes). TECEPs are RA credits, it can go towards the 30 RA requirement and you can transfer in up to 114 credits. If you provide the details requested on the addendum/template, we can help you further.

Timeline: ASAP. Hard deadline of March 2026

Given that I misunderstood the transfer requirements, it appears I have a lot more flexibility to bring in more ACE credits. If all credits transfer and apply, it seems the wise bet would be to bring in more Sophia LL until I hit 108 credits, then take 2 UL TECEP’s or Study.com courses, then take the 2 required classes at TESU. (I believe 1 credit Student success from Sophia is likely redundant to Educational Framework from CC and may not be accepted.)

Any input would be appreciated.

Additionally are there any UL TECEP’s or Study.com/Sophia courses that you can recommend that can be studied for/ completed quickly?

Is there a history of any of my Sophia credits being denied?

Wait, what are you trying to do? You've got roughly 96 credits for transfer, why are we going for TESU? Just because it has a max transfer of 114 credits plus a requirement of only 18 UL isn't the real reason you should go for them. Skip TESU, your first choice should be ETAMU (previously known as TAMUC) and UMPI would be your second choice.

Basically, the ETAMU BAAS with several concentration options would look better than a TESU BALS with no concentration. Even UMPI BLS with a minor or two/three would look better, as you can take 3-4 classes towards the MAOL and have 25% of the MAOL done (if you want to go ladder into the MAOL later). Decide, ETAMU vs UMPI...

I've explained before, it's not the number of credits you have remaining after transfer, it's the cost, ease, speed, to finish that really counts. The two options I mentioned would be cheaper, easier, faster, and provide more ROI/Value, plus being more personalized than going the TESU route due to having up to 60 electives of what you want and interest you...
