This must apply strictly to totally DL schools. I teach DL classes to students all over the US for a state community college and we don't have to file in any other state other than NC. I will be rather interesting if EC got a grant to pay the fee Ebersole said they would end up paying, but then he goes on to say they will have to raise student fees. I find that unfair to the students. So much for the new resolution to be in the best interest of the students.

I do know that the department of education has issued new mandates for DL classes that they must include content rigor, instructor weekly interaction as well as student interaction. They are also increasing their requirements for assessment types and content. DL are not allowed to be "correspondence classes". They must be just as content driven and difficult as the same class in the classroom. Since schools like EC don't offer classroom classes maybe that is why they have to obtain additional certification or oversight with the state's they operate in, just a thought.

How is a small school like COSC going to survive something like this?

This is just whack. Just about all of the schools that have DETC accrediation have some form of correspondence courses. What about PF and ACE Credits? I understand why the federal gov't is requiring this as school tuition is just crazy at most DL schools like capella, u of p, walden etc. They are trying to get them to cut their costs one way or another but this is going to cause schools that already have inflated tutition to yet increase it again. I wonder how this will affect TESC. Hopefully the BIG Three and a few other schools will have a grandfather clause or something for current studies.

ryoder Wrote:Government protects their own.Yeah their own dollars... They are doing this to cut down on the schools charging high rates for DL courses (via financial aid). They are making them pay back some of those dollars by having them to register the courses in state. Students are getting these large FA bills and can't get jobs to afford to pay them back. Its just sad.

They said that the 300k grant would go towards starting an accreditation service that would standardize the requirements for DL across the US. It would also keep schools from having the register within each state.
