Transferring my community college credits to Excelsior & Receving my preliminary revi

Just throwing in one other thing- if you stay at EC, you can also work on your nursing degree with them. Which, I would still encourage you to do.

Ok, thanks everybody for your information and help.

I have decided that I am going to complete the associate degree through Excelsior. I am already used to them from my nursing program and I have already received my preliminary review explaining which credits will transfer (which was pretty much all of them besides 2 math classes.)

With that being said, I was wondering if you could recommend the fastest way to complete this program through Excelsior. My preliminary review says that I still need the following credits:

13.69 Arts and Sciences Electives credits
3.00 Capstone
1.00 Information Literacy
1.67 "Additional Professional Credits or Arts and Sciences"

I was also wondering since I plan on finishing my LPN to RN program after I complete this associate degree, if I could use any of the classes I need to pass for nursing for the associate degree also?

For instance, I still have to pass Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology - would these transfer to the Arts and Sciences credits that I would need?

I have only taken CLEP and EC exams, the CLEP Sociology exam I took seemed pretty straight forward and easy so if there are other CLEPS i could take that would be fine.

Whatever is the easiest and fastest for completing this through Excelsior.

Thanks!

Yes, Arts & Sciences means anything within Humanities, Social Science, History, Natural Science, and Math. Do you like any of these categories, in particular?

Look through the Student Guide to Credit by Exam for ideas:

School Catalogs - excelsior.edu

6 credit - A&I Lit CLEP
Do you see other 6 credit CLEPs that interest you?
3 credit - Psychology CLEP seems to be taken often with Sociology CLEP.
Yes, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology would move you along in both degrees.
Do you need any other math or science for your nursing degree?

I'm assuming that you are planning an AA and not an AS in Liberal Arts.

Hey NAP,

Yes my preliminary review that I received back is based on earning an AA.

The classes I have left to complete my nursing degree are:

1) Anatomy & Physiology
2) Microbiology
3) Essentials of Nursing Care: Chronicity
4) Essentials of Nursing Care: Reproductive Health
5) Lifespan 1
6) Lifespan 2
7) Lifespan 3

I think the only 2 classes from the above list that I am able to take before I would actually have to enroll into the nursing program are A&P and Micro. If I could "kill two birds with one stone" by taking these then I would, but I also have to consider the extra time it would take for me to study for and pass A&P and Micro vs a CLEP psychology exam. From what I have heard, the A&P exam is nothing to take lightly and would take serious studying.

Also, based on the link you provided me and you asked me if there are any other 6 credit CLEPS that interest me.....where do I go to view the list of 6 credit CLEPs?

Thanks!

Yes, you definitely have to weigh the need to study well for the nursing exams versus your need to finish a degree quickly.

You can see all of your exam options in the Student Guide to Credit by Exam. It is downloadable from the link above; it is at the bottom of the list of catalogs. Around page 20 is the list of all CLEPs. For 6 credits each in Arts & Sciences, consider Literature (3 options), Humanities, Social Science & History, and/or Biology CLEPs.

Do you like Psychology? There are a couple CLEPs in that subject.

The AA is limiting you to just Arts & Science choices. You could choose anything, including Applied Professional exams, if you switch to an AS. Either way, you have a lot of exams to choose from.

Also, make sure the Intro A&P course you have won't duplicate the A&P exam.

Ok thanks a lot NAP, i printed off the list of CLEP exams this morning and have looked them over. I do know that I would rather not take any 6 credit CLEPs for Biology or Chemistry or anything near that stuff - its been a while.

I could do the A&I Lit that you recommended (which by the way what exactly do you study for that?) I could also do College composition, English literature, and American literature. All of which are 6 credits. Also all of which, I am not sure exactly what to study for lol, but I was always good at writing classes in high school and college.

I was thinking that I could do 2 - 6 credit CLEPs and 1 - 3 credit CLEP for a total of 15 credits, but my preliminary review says that I need a total of 15.36 so would they make me take anothe CLEP because I am .36 credits short??? For the 3 credit CLEP i would probably do something under the Applied Professional category - maybe principles of management.

Thanks!

The REA guide is great for A&IL, and I posted some resources here: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...post136708 Quizlet has some flashcards for the test: Analyzing and interpreting literature clep study sets and study tools | Quizlet However, there's only so much studying you can actually do for this test - once you have mastered some basic vocabulary and can understand the meanings of various poems and other literature, there isn't much more studying that you can do.

College Comp. and A&IL actually had a good bit of overlap, although College Comp. focused more on "which word would fit best in this sentance?" kind of questions. For Comp., you will be required to write two essays, a persuasive essay in 30 minutes and a source-based essay in 40 minutes. I posted some sample prompts at the top of this post and some resources and more info at the bottom of the same post: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...post136709

For College Comp, when going to take your exam/write the essays - how are you graded? Do you still know if you passed that day just like the other pass/fail CLEPs?

I have taken several 6 credit CLEPs. You can check feedback for all of them in my signature.

No, do not take College Comp without official approval from your advisor. As far as I know, it is not accepted for credit at EC, despite what the guide says.

You'll also need to ask about the possibility of graduating with fewer than 60 credits. I was surprised to learn about it through this post:

http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...dvice.html

Think about one more test option as a back-up to get your total to 18 credits in exams.

If you don't earn all 13.69 credits in Arts & Sciences, then you are changing to an AS degree, which opens more testing options, too. Management is Applied Professional, not Arts & Sciences.

For an AS with 18 more credits, A&I Lit, 6 credit CLEP of your choice, Marketing & Management CLEPs.

For an AA, substitute one or both Applied Professional CLEPs with something from Arts & Sciences.
