I am so grateful that I found this forum. Otherwise, I would've been one of those poor souls who shelled out $397 for inaccurate and outdated advice. That much money is far better spent on Sophia or Study.com!

Some students reported getting 1/2 of the questions wrong on a CLEP exam and still passing. CLEPS are MUCH easier than Saylor exams, and CLEPS are free with ModernStates. Having said that, CLEPs are no longer the most efficient way to earn college credits as there are now quicker alternatives.

First, how would anyone know how many questions they got right or wrong on a CLEP?  They don't give you that info, so it's impossible to say that.

Second, exams are THE most efficient way to earn college credits, especially if you don't have to study.  I took 4 exams that I did not study for on one day, passing all of them in 2 hours 20 minutes.  You can't tell me a Sophia course or Study.com or whatever is faster than that!  It was all info I already knew, but it's still faster than a course.  I took the ModernStates American Gov course in about 90 minutes one day, just for fun.  I didn't take the CLEP, but I'm sure that I could not get through a credit-bearing course that quickly.

I often take notes on which questions I'm not sure about. I'm usually within 10% of guessing my grade.

I'm saying if we take 100 random students, they will go faster on average with Sophia than with CLEP exams. ModernStates often doesn't provide enough info to pass the exam.

I didn't say it was the easiest way for everyone.  I was just saying that "CLEPs are no longer the most efficient way to earn college credits as there are now quicker alternatives" is completely untrue. They may or may not be, depending on the person, the exam, the knowledge, etc.

Yeah. Or maybe a "Self-designed degree." Bachelor of Self-Education." Has a certain ring to it - NOT exactly the ring of truth.

Hmm, that just gave me a thought... an Applied Bachelors of Individualized Education, concentration in Degree Hacking for Yourself!
