Finlandia University - Plan didn't work...failed to save itself!

What a plan! And it backfired, they spent a couple of millions to update and hope sports teams will draw in students. I would have recommended putting in place programs that will reach out to students to bring interest into their existing programs instead or put their programs online! Oh well, what can they do now but close!

What kind of geniuses approved this plan? Sports programs around the country are on the decline. Football is not what it once was. I see so many high schools merging football programs with 2-3 schools having players on the team because each school doesn't have enough players on their own. How on earth did this guy think artificial turf was going to attract college students? Unless there's a beer fountain in the middle of that turf, they don't care. Why not add new programs like cyber security, digital marketing, analytics, you know programs that end with jobs. Crazy idea!

Agreed.  In San Diego, where we left in 2020, schools were having to switch to 7v7 or even get rid of their football teams altogether (like only having a Varsity team instead of having a Varsity, JV and even Freshman team).  The numbers have been going down, down, down for years.  To try to start a football team in that environment...crazy.

They should have come up with more degrees that people actually wanted, along with several online options - to drive enrollment, you have to give people what they want, and football obviously wasn't it.

I wonder why TEL learning never put up course equivalency for Iowa Wesleyan University........appears the be going out of business in 23. Get your TEL credits in ASAP......the list of partner schools are the same sounding types of schools on the list. No name....no where schools. Federal funding staved off the closures for a few years.....reality is catching up.

Since there are more than 4000 colleges in the US, I'm going to guess that 3900 of those are no name, nowhere schools.  Unless it's very close to where you live, or a VERY well-known school like an Ivy or a big-name school, ALL schools are no name schools.

TEL created partnerships with a few schools.  It's changed here and there over the years, and will probably continue to do so.  There is no need to try to scare anyone into anything here.  Take whichever courses you want, and choose any of the schools that are available at the time.

Agreed and valid assessment. My post was harsher than intended. The point is the footing for higher ed is very shaky right now for students and caution is needed to avoid life changing financial consequences. Many students with some credit at closing schools will likely lose some/money credits at minimum which is time and money lost. A sense of what could happen and what to look out for in a school is vital more than ever. I definitely did not want to make it an alarmist post but buyer beware is very much in play in higher ed with this inflationary landscape. We can all learn lessons from these closures is the better takeaway.
