CBE MSIT recommendations

I wanted a little bit of help looking for a competency based Master's program in Information Technology. 

So far I was able to find WGU. 

What I like about WGU is that it's a flat rate and you can do it as fast as you can hence competency based but I don't like that it has proctoring even though that's not a deal breaker I also don't like the fact that it is 6 months long even though that is quite generous for the flat rate but nor is that a deal breaker.

Just wanted to get more options. So far the Internet has yielded bachelors degrees in IT and related areas and has not yielded Masters in IT that are CBE. Trying to see if anyone knows of any. So far I've looked at Walden University, University of Wisconsin, Purdue Global, and Capella University and none of them have a CBE Master's in Information Technology even the traditional format.

I have the MS in IT Mgmt. Did it two terms.
I also have four degrees from WGU, so am familiar with both systems. 
CWU has no tests or proctoring. It is all papers and some lab-style work.

Having taken hundreds of certification exams, I have never had a problem with the WGU proctoring I experienced in the MBA ITM or MSCIA programs. It was nice to have a course added that I could take a test for the same day. It also helped to break out the writing, though I found all of the IT-focused projects a lot of fun.

What about the six-month term don't you like? I feel like six months (you can apply to graduate as soon as you complete all requirements) and two certifications for $4,090 is a tremendous value. And if I ever pursued this specific degree, I would probably go with CWU to experience a CBE school other than WGU, but consider that the FlexIT Pro tuition is $3,900 for a three-month term.

Another consideration... Seeing that you are an Air Force veteran, it might be easy to map your experience to the PMI requirements for PMP certification. I did for myself, but never followed through (too many irons in the fire). Just a thought.

I was trying to stay away from the 6 month mark because I was wanting to graduate before then. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I haven't eliminated WGU and I wanted to sort of weigh other options. I initially wanted to do ITM at WGU but I noticed they revamped it recently to IT and IT Product Management.

I'm not heavily swayed by the CAPM certification and or the other certification. I honestly don't even know what the other one is called off the top of my head but it seemed like almost an equivalency certification.

I understand the cost per month is a bit more for CWU, but it will be less if I graduate in 3 month which I'm aiming for if I do end up going that route. The 6 months at WGU is playing it safe though and I can appreciate that as well. "Setting myself up for success."

A bit more about me, I was a radio troop in the Air Force and spent my time all over a base Comm Squadron. Never really did anything "IT" but rather "IT management"

You know, I spent years in a NetMan/NCC shop, did TDC-ICAP, and I couldn't tell you a thing about what the Radio troops did (we kept them down the street).

University of the People MSIT is not competency based, but it can be finished in 5 terms (1 year) by taking 2+2+4+3+1 courses.

I've been communicating with CWU about the FlexIT Pro MS-ITM program. While the program's structure seems similar to what WGU offers, I was surprised to learn that the "three-month" block or term advertised for a FlexIT Pro term is actually shorter than three months. These terms follow the CWU standard academic calendar, which is based on the quarter system, and has break periods between. So for the upcoming Spring 2026 quarter, there are only 74 days in the term. Just something to consider.

Purdue University Global’s ExcelTrack program used to have a CBE MS in IT and another in Cybersecurity Management. PG removed them circa early 2024, but it’s possible they update course material and return them someday. PG still offers both degrees in non-CBE form.

Just curious... Does it have to follow that 2+2+4+3+1 format? Or can someone do something like this, 2+3+3+3+1 or a 2+2+3+3+2 format? I am looking at the MSIT because it's RA, other than that, I may look at Woolf for similar pricing options.
