EC to TESC Course Transfer Question...
#1
Hello all.

I was just bored going through some sample degree plans for TESC (even though I'm enrolled at Excelsior) just to see how quickly I could finish with TESC as opposed to Excelsior.

My question is as follows:

I am currently taking 4 classes this term and one of them includes Interpersonal Communication which Excelsior designates as COMM 210. However, TESC designates this class as COM 330 (Upper Level). If I were to transfer this class into TESC...would they classify this as Lower Level or Upper Level.

I was hoping an enrolled TESC student could ask about this for me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

P.S: I've read on other forums that TESC accepts ALEKS Beginning Algebra as MAT-102. However, I can't find this course (MAT-102) on TESC's website. Catalog & Registration Bulletin Search - Thomas Edison State College - acalog ACMSâ„¢

Just wanted to confirm whether this is still true.

I can't confirm the comm question- my guess is that they'll bring it in to match their own class, but I'd only bet ten cents on it. Confusedmilelol:

As for math, beg algebra will be MAT102, that's true. TESC doesn't offer a MAT102, they do offer a 105 though (which I took). The school can assign a number without offering the course, so no worries. Typically you'll get a random class and it will get assigned 199 or 299. These are just odd balls that the college uses to enter them into the computer. The 102 number has been assigned to several students here who have taken the ALEKS class. EC, as I understand it, will NOT give you 100 level credit for that class though. I believe EC still ranks it as a 080-099 level. Maybe someone else from EC can confirm/deny that.

Usually, schools will accept transfer credit at whatever level it is from the original institution, rather than bring it to their own level. I'm not sure if that's the same for all schools, but it really wouldn't make sense if it wasn't. Keep your ten cents, gambling is the Devil :reddevil:

Thanks for responding guys.

COOK: I know for a fact that Excelsior accepts ALEKS Beginning Algebra and it does meet their Math Requirement for the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree. It is on my transcript and I'm good to go.

Still trying to find out for a fact how TESC would bring the COMM 210 Interpersonal Communication class in though. Just curious to see if they would bring it in under as COM 330 which is how TESC has the class listed.

Thanks again.

No, TESC will evaluate the number. I have had them drop numbers- the most significant was one of my last courses that I took locally. It was taught here as 201 (or something like that) and TESC brought it in as 199. This was back when anything 200 or higher was upper level, so that stunt meant that the course was a complete waste of time and money. After a month of going around with them (that course is offered at MANY schools as 200/300) I gave up and found something else to take. I promise you, the number offered on the course when you take it IS subject to TESC review.
