Phillip,
Wonderful! Statisticians/Analysts are always in high demand which equals high pay. Great segue! I'm assuming you're a computer science major.
Good luck!

I am making myself finish this ALEKS statistics course, but it is like pulling teeth. The most I can bully my poor mind into is 1 piece of pie at a time I have 56 of 116 pie pieces, so my question is how many hours is it going to take me to be able to assess at > 69%? It takes me 10-15 minutes minimum to finish 1 piece of pie.
Now I want a non-math brain ( that means not you BB:p ) to tell me if they ever finished this D#&*m course. This is the last thing I need to take then I can apply for my last certification and really take a break from school. Which I DESPERATELY NEEDbanghead banghead

If you're not doing it already, as Rickyjo has recommended, print out the explanation for each topic as you do it. While paper is helpful, using something like Cutepdf you can also print out to a pdf file.
edit: cutepdf not cuteftp, urg

If you go into the ALEKS parent account, look under student accounts and click on the progress report. It will tell you, based on your current rate what the expected rate to reach your goal is.
BTW, I WISH I were halfway there with ALEKS. I am so slow that I have 35 out of 311 topics done.... 39.5 hours to reach my goal if I continue @ current pace. I love the ALEKS learning method but really dislike math so we'll see if I end up attempting a CLEP instead..

I must admit that with the time I have wasted trying to rush assessments I have already spent over 90 hrs on Statistics. I do print out everything I have a book of explanations. The problem is I keep getting distracted and forgetting what I learned. Part of this I know extremely well because I have been teaching it to 6th graders. The other part I am having a hard time getting into my thick skull. I am home for the forseeable future (haven't been home more then 2 weeks at a time since early June) and I need to get this done and stop spending $20/month I can't really afford. I also need to get over the depression I have been in for a while now. I will just keep slowly plugging away.
FYI-I have been so inconsistent and at this so long the Master report just has -- where it should say how long this will take.

That one took me longer than I'd planned to. One interesting note - my adviser warned me not to take too many Aleks.com or FEMA classes, as they're not assigned a grade (at least at TESC), and, to him, it was "the easy way out" (guess he hasn't taken any, then)

Do, or do not. There is NO try.

I find it interesting that s/he should warn you against taking the least expensive courses for credit. Wonder if he also considers CLEP/DSST/TECEP and all ACE transcribed courses the easy way out? Last time I checked they are not assigned grades. There is nothing "easy" about ALEKS courses, college algebra and above are actually quite the opposite. Emergency preparedness is some of the most important practical knowledge anyone can have given the nature of natural disasters, not to mention the hazardous situations that happen in the home and workplace. (I always volunteer as a member of the company safety committee and evacuation teams so I probably take this subject more seriously than most.) In my opinion that advisor really needs to rethink his/her priorities and leave the personal hang-ups at home.

:iagree: Absolutely agree! I can lay siege to 24cr CLEP in a day, and power through a whole semester of B&M assignments in a week, but it takes me bloody ages to finish an Aleks Math course.
Sadly I have no choice, I have to have the maths and beh. stats for my degree. :nopity: Taking them as courses would kill my GPA guaranteed. So when you think about it like that, taking the aleks courses also saves me the $xx,xxx in grad scholarships I'm bucking for. milelol:

I'm sure your advisor means well, but if he has issues with alternate ways to earn credit, he really is working at the wrong school.

I must say, like many others here I have been able to just use short-term memory to pass many of these testing-out courses via CLEP and DSST. Without question, ALEKS has been the one mechanism by which I was forced to have some material entered into longer term memory and forced to understand process. Any instructor who comments against it is not familiar with it and its thoroughness. As per "grades" versus "credits" that is an institutional decision. TESC has opted to go the easier route and apply a "CR" basis for testing out options. Many schools will go further and apply a grade basis the recommended score of a specific exam.
Frankly, I wish ALEKS had higher level mathematics as content because I enjoy learning math. I'm sure (or hopeful) over time they will expand their offering.
One other things I'd offer up is, Youtube and ItunesU have quite a bit of content on almost all subject areas. Spending some time to learn how to use these two is well worth the effort.
