Man, I didn't realize you could post after canceling a subscription!!!!!!!:O
Well I started this thread, and I finally would like to comment... on the issues mentioned here... Here goes:
The point is that during this upcoming election you have two choices. By not voting for one, you decrease the chances of his winning, thereby simultaneously increasing the chances of his opponent.
Do I like all of Romney's policies? No. Do I like all of Obama's policies? No. However, I think it would be better for America to have Romney as her next president rather than Obama. So my support, therefore, goes to Romney.
If you are dissatisfied with who we have to choose from, you can't fix it by helping put the most destructive person into office. You can work to help convince others of what you believe. That is the way change comes about. One person cannot change the course of America alone. The fate of America is decided upon by all Americans. If Americans are blind and corrupt, than America will fall. As this is happening, though, I will go on fighting the downward trend in the most effective way I know.
America has lost a lot of ground. In order to regain that, it must be done one step at a time. This is the hardest thing to do. It's easier to demand complete and total reform immediately and then say "I told you so", when the nation bleeds. That isn't how good change happens. It is step-by-step. It takes many like-minded people who are willing to work together, one task at a time, with patience and long-suffering. This is what America doesn't have (or at least I haven't seen it), and that is why America is going down.
Voting third party or not voting at all is nothing more than an excuse to make you feel better about yourself and get out of the hard and painful work that needs to be done to get this country back on the right track.
This statement might be taken as offensive. However, it is not a personal attack, it is the truth.
Wishing that we lived in a perfect world and our ideal candidate would be elected every time isn't what is going to help this country.
The degradation of the culture and politics of this Country was not something that happened overnight. It was a long and steady road as our foundations have been chipped away a bit at a time. To get this fixed will take many years of very hard work. America must be restored step by step. We need to rebuild the foundation layer by layer, both in our culture and in our government. This takes hard work and A LOT of patience.
You see, I value a real and actual step toward improvement, however small it may be, than the most sincere imaginary wish for perfection.
You want to be true to your principles? Than do something that counts with your vote! Do something that really makes a difference, however small and insignificant that may seem to you. Dream for a better world? Yes! But don't be so naive as to think that that change can come about automatically. It takes work, many small steps.
If Obama wins this election, it will be because America is no longer made of doers, but of dreamers only...
