Study.com ACE credit recommendations? $200 for 6 credits

dfrecore Wrote:Jennifer, please let me know how this goes. My kids start HS next fall, and we are looking at options for them.

So, I know you have to know that for my 9th grader, it's all about the class. I'm trying to boost the DIY classes I make for him, and adding in the study dot com classes will give him a little more "meat" on top of what we're doing (he will use these for science right now- later I don't know). Credit is an option, but honestly not even on my mind. It's more about deciding if I want to pay for it; He may attend a more traditional college that wouldn't take ACE credit, so I'm so iffy on him.

My 11th grader is a different story. He did 12 credits dual enrollment at the CC this semester in automotive. Earned straight A's but wants nothing to do with automotive- I told him it was good skills to have in life, that he didn't need to do it for a job, so he did it "for me." In fact, he has been pretty clear for a couple years that he wants to be a realtor YESTERDAY and I'm just in his way lol. Academically, he is limited in what makes sense for him since dual enrollment in their liberal arts/transfer requires passing a placement exam, and that's probably not going to happen this year, so after a LOT of consideration, I decided to drop the (free) dual enrollment option and let him do (pay out of pocket for) an associate in business at TESC. He can do the bulk of it via study dot com, and it's more aligned with his skills / style. This kid is revving up to go, and any and all college that I want for him has to happen now before he moves out lol. So, that's how I'm doing it- assuming the study dot com is a good fit, I'd like to see him complete 12 courses in 12 months through them (he already has some credit through Sophia- his CC credit won't count since electives aren't needed) I still have him for 12th grade, so I'll have to assess where we are this time next year and see what he needs. I'm actually hoping study dot com expands their catalog, I'd love to use 1 company from start to finish.
