I also think you should talk to your mentor, to see what the chances are that you could actually pass. However, as far as I know replacing and W vs F is still the same... replacing a grade. With that in mind you will fail 100% of what you don't attempt... aka - withdraw. Therefore, it seems better to at least put the effort into try getting it done and learn what you can. Besides, the teacher may think you showed great effort in the end and choose to pass you. My other piece of advice is to hire a writing mentor to help you get the paper done. I have someone who helped proof-read mine who has a lot of experience whom I could recommend. I found her online, but she was excellent and had fast turn-around at a reasonable price.
