I advise you two to figure out if you want to do school counseling or school psychology because those are two different occupations with different tracks. Using Texas as an example, school counseling requires teaching experience, but becoming a school psychologist does not. School psychologists need to earn either an NASP-approved or APA-accredited degree or a graduate degree that has the required coursework. They also need to complete a 1200-hour internship with 600 of those hours in a public school.

On the other hand, becoming a school counselor requires a master's degree, the completion of an approved certification program, and two years of classroom teaching experience.
