If you are definitely going to TESC, I've heard from others on this forum that they will only accept the English Composition with essay to meet the English Requirement.
If you are planning to attend Excelsior than the no CLEP will meet the Engish Requirement. You'll have to take an actual class or take their ECE English Composition exam which is rather pricey.

P.S: I'd take the Intro to Sociology CLEP to get your feet wet. Rather easy exam. Just study the IC flashcards thoroughly and you should do just fine. Also be sure to check out the Specific Exam Feedback section as well.
