One thing I want to express, after Sophia, Straighterline and Study.com are most definitely not cost effective ways to fill missing credits for the GEC requirements. The cost of a monthly membership at Study.com or Straighterline (and a class) is roughly the same of just going to UMPI and paying the monthly fee. After financial aid my monthly fee is only $200. And I'm going to be debt-free by May of this year. From what I can see about their courses etc, I believe it takes longer to do InstantCert, Study.com, or Straighterline. I tried doing Instant Cert's managerial accounting for example, but the amount of content compared to UMPI drastically different, UMPI's took me 3 days, after 2 months of InstantCert's I gave up on it and moved on.
If I did Study.com etc, I would've spent easily an extra $1000+ for a degree.
Because I did UMPI, my total cost is less then 3 grand. UMPI's two terms cost me $2800. I was given Sophia.org free. I was granted $1600 financial aid. This means I only owed $2k. I don't have to pay the other 1.6k financial aid back for 20 years.
