Age: 20
Desired Degrees: Computer Science, ASNSM Math & Finance
Budget/timeline: Cheapest as possible, >6months-1year
Current RA credits: None
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS credits: None
Situation: I find myself switching from the traditional school system to this concept of testing out of classes. I’m putting together a plan to double major at TESU. I would like my plan to be review and if there's any changes could be made to make it cheaper, save time, things to consider, etc. Here is my plan as follows:
1. I would apply to TESU and as soon as I'm in the applicate status. I would pay $52 for medical terminology TECEP in order to be enrolled into TESU.
2. I would then take action earning credits from CLEPs, ACE (study.com) and then TECEPs to earn RA credits. Leaving me with 33 RA credits to be earned at TESU. Over the 16 credit limit to get the residency fee wavered. in total it'll take about a year to earn these credits.
3. I would then transfer the study.com, CLEPs credits into TESU.
4. Attend TESU to earn the last 33 RA credits at TESU. Then graduate.
Though I do have a few questions about this:
1. when I enroll into TESU, do I like declare somehow what majors I'm completing?
2. Because I'm majoring in 2 majors (CS and Finance), for the GEs section and any classes that overlap the 2 degrees. I'll only need to take those classes 1 time and not twice, right?
3. Is it realistic completing 5 exams at study.com per month?
4. where could I find how much It'll cost when I attend TESU for the rest of the credits?
5. For the TECEPs I see on their site that for classes levels 100-200 it’s $52, and $77 for classes 300-400 class levels. The question arises from it saying "Per credit attempted". Does that mean if I want to earn RA credits towards TESU, I'll have to multiply the price by 3? Because of the credits of classes is 3 credits.
Time and cost:
Sources: study.com and CLEP (maybe TECEPs).
Cost: CLEPs $1,260. study.com $2,490. Total $3,750
Time: ACE, CLEPs, 11.5 months. Time for 33 RA credits ?.
Let me know if I should supply the spreadsheet and which is the best way to upload it.
1. Yes you apply for a specific major (others can better answer details on declaring 2 majors, I don't remember seeing that on the application and may require other steps)
2. You do the gen-eds once, not twice. There is some amount of credits that must be unique between the two degrees I believe, but to some extent area-of-study courses for one major can be electives for the other and courses required for both can be taken one time and apply to both degrees. Others can clarify better.
3. 100% doable if you're dedicating full time effort to this
4. TESU website under tuition
5. Others seem to have covered this one pretty well
